Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Someone told me I was wise when all I had done was apply some commonsense.

So what is wisdom?

Knowledge gained through observation and experience.

little house on the praire

Commonsense and life experience.

What you might have thought was common sense they thought wise like yesterday when I thought my clocks had moved on an hour I didn't show much common sense then

I think it's based on a deep awareness of how things happen that leads to a calmness when faced with difficult decisions and can have a calming influence on others. I think wisdom is demonstrated though word and deed and more likely to be noticed by others than oneself.

So that can be demonstrated by the "wise head on young shoulders" as well as the sage old owls?

Wisdom is realising the more you learn how little you know.

yes I've know people who are wise beyond their years. I guess it is also relative too. So wisdom would look different depending on your perspective and frame of reference

Can I defer to Confucius:

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third, by experience, which is the most bitter.”

Knowledge is knowing a courgette is a fruit not a vegetable.

Wisdom is knowing not to put courgette in a fruit salad.

We've still got courgettes emerging from the allotment. They're never ending.

Anyway, back to wisdom...

I had to look after the allotment over the summer and one day they would be an inch long and the next they'd be a foot long! They are taking over.

"Norman's surname?"

There was a programme about him on BBC4 yesterday. Maybe that's why this thought has got stuck in my head.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I asked my mum for wisdom as a kid. It was on my Christmas list. First year I got a boxset, the second year I got a cricketing almanac. The 3rd year I asked for lego and got what I wanted.

I may have gained wisdom in this story of dubious veracity.

If you can do a Rubik cube in under 5 minutes your clever.

If you realise the pointlessness of wasting 5 minutes fiddling with bits of plastic your wise.

Intelligence is knowing enough information to completely humiliate your opponent in an argument.

Wisdom is knowing that maybe you'd rather just stay friends instead
