With days to go before the start of the new series I’m A Celebrity, TV wildlife expert Chris Packham has penned an open letter to Ant & Dec calling them to put an end to the “abuse of animals” in the show’s famous bushtucker trials which he branded “outdated and silly.”

Writing in the Radio Times, the former Really Wild Show presenter said: “The problem is that animals such as snakes, spiders, crocodiles, rats and many invertebrates are already misunderstood and thus unfortunately vilified, despite the incredibly important roles they play in the world’s ecosystems and our lives.

“By orchestrating a fear of them among your contestants, I’m afraid you’re reinforcing and exaggerating a terrible ignorance and intolerance of these remarkable animals.”

“I can guarantee that some animals are harmed during production, because they are fragile or easily stressed. Or simply killed, as they are in your bushtucker trials.”

“The show has been running for years now. Surely it’s time for it to mature, for you to accept that, as pillars of the British broadcasting community, you should put an end to this inhumane, embarrassing and destructive aspect of an otherwise great show.”

Packham also said the eating of invertebrates and animal body parts such as eyes and testes made a mockery of the needs of those from some cultures who have no choice but to eat such things.

Used to warch it when it first came on. I find these type of shows entertaining when the celebs don't know what they are letting themselves in for.

Once they have been on for a while the contestants become fsr more knowing and the show less entertaining.

So no won't be watching.

its easy to think that some would go as far as to say its the assumption of the poorly educated. The reality is all sorts make up a TV audience from dimwits to the highly educated and that's the same for people with opinions too.

In defence of this show. . It's the only voting programme (lets face it, there are far too many) that doesn't take itself seriously. Ant or Dec are funny when they get the film crew giggling ! Jimmy, Jake, Mel, Foggy and Michael all seem top folks. Edwina is a very very odd lady ! Did you see her pantomime head movements when she was locking horns with Kendra ? Had to admire her 45 second foghorn call though ! Kendra is showing classic signs of someone who's never lived in the real world. She doth protested too much when Currie rattled her cage. She was just bored and wanted a fight. ' always live your life for yourself' must have been the last straw. A life spent being paid to live with some old relic and then moving on to be a pretend tv star can hardly be likened to doing things for yourself. Bless her !

Evie I totally agree. These people have been away from their loved ones for longer, more than likely on a holiday or through work.

Its not on tonight so you dont have to worry about watching it, its back tomorrow though so just watch something else if you dont like it.

In regards to the post above Any & Dec are not that funny and the laughing on set is staged, I bet when the crew laugh you don't? I might think about it but its not funny enough to make you laugh, you can tell the punchline a mile off. You watch the celebs and can almost predict what Ant & Dec will say about it and try and make funny.

I still think they are the best out their to do this though and it wouldnt be the same without the little shits.

Totally agree. I loved jimmy at first. But i soon noticed he was trying to dominate by using a front of being enthusiastic or bantering. Jake was gracious when jimmy was being vile to him.
