out of the blue

So out of the blue you get a PM, not on here, but from one of your friends on Facebook.

The message intimates that whilst they know you are with someone, they wish they'd have had a night with you and want you to know that.

You would never 'go there' with someone you regard as a friend.

This raises various questions :

- how do you respond / react to the sender ?

- do you tell your other half about the message ?

- if you were the other half, how do you react to being told (or not told) ?

- is this one of those situations where there is really no right or wrong answers ?

Over to you lot ...

If my mindset were to never go there as a friend, I would say to them, in firm but warm tones, that yes, it would be an interesting night, but that I would never risk ruining a friendship. Ever.

After that I wouldn't talk to them through fab at all, as it sets the wrong tone.

Me personally, I would tell my other half, but I wouldn't tell the sender that I'd told her.

dont know how you can intimate that you'd want a night with someone, other that saying "I really would like to spend the nigh with you".

Happened to me...but I don't have another half. Do have a best friend of the fem kind.

We went there.....we are still best friends.

We go there as and when. Spend weekends together quite often....but we remain just best friends.

Never keep anything from your other half, it can never end well.

If your not going there, then tell them, don't give them false hope, it's probably taken a lot of courage to send that message (and probably quite a bit of vodka) so be gentle, your down the rabbit hole already the only thing you can do is be gentle and kind to everyone involved.

"I would play my ELO double album and think it over"

I see what you did there.

Nice one.

Suppose you could spend a Night in the City - unless of course they looked so bad they made you Turn to Stone.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I'm with Mysterious Guy - I'd put the record player on and ponder it.

A lot depends on how you define "friend" in the context of Facebook.

Other than that, definitely share with your "partner". Not doing so simply opens the door to distrust.

So here was what I did (I hasten to add, before I made this post)

Acknowledged the message and politely said I didn't think of him that way.

He then apologised.

Told the OH about the message on the 'no secrets' principle

His reaction was one of acceptance and understanding, mixed with a bit of 'the cheeky bastard '

It just struck me as one of them situations that, if not handled appropriately, could turn someone chancing their arm into something way more between a couple.

In terms of 'what type of friend', someone I used to socialise with and chat to a few years back, who I haven't seen in a couple of years.

He has never been, how can I say, 'inappropriate' before

I wondered why he was quiet tonight. Say hello to him from me.
