"Is it just me or are we celebrating an act of terrorism ?"

a failed act yes..

pretty sure that many would find the thought of an organised public celebration of the 'brighton bomber' pretty offensive and with good cause..

funny old world..

Fireworks were pretty cool when I first saw them. 40 years on and I find them a bit dull and repetitive. Oh look a bright light in the sky, there's another... and another.

I had to get sedatives off the vet for mine as she was so scared. Not sure what was worse, seeing her cowering in fear shaking uncontrollably or acting like she was as pissed as a little beetle, walking into things and falling over!

We're off to a display in our local park. Tacky fair rides etc too! Note to self - buy sparklers!

Not an act of terrorism in todays sense.

Democracy only existed for the top gentry then - and even then it was highly corrupt and self-serving - and Guy Fawkes and co were simply trying a drastic way to change the system - which famously failed!

Isn't that an accurate description of government now too

So far he doesn't seem to be too bothered by loud noises. Fortunately where I live no-one sets them off close to my house so they are never usually too loud from inside the house.

Fingers crossed.

I've no problem with celebrating 5th November. The problem is around herer they have been celebrating it last weekend, last night and I daresay tomorrow night and next weekend!

Its like Beirut!

I think the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter depends on who America is backing at that time.

Cuuuute. Our cats ain't bothered by em unless they make huge bangs. The crap they sell in tesco hardly qualifies for 'shock and awe' levels of noise

We have a fireworks display every Saturday evening on Southend seafront throughout October until early to mid November. I understand the last one this year is on 15th.

Kinda makes going to a 'bonfire night' display a little pointless

What can I say, I over heard a couple in a bar where I'm at in Tenerife and she asked her husband if he could ask and find out if there's a bonfire going on anywhere near by. On hearing this, I nearly broke my neck in turning around, he caught me looking bemused at her. He then said, I'll ask later, do you want another drink. He then walked past me and said I love blondes.
