At my mums feeding her cat as she's in hospital

I'm not a cat person

But the bugger won't eat. What would I do ?

She always looks like she's got the arse with the world

Sapphire is a blue rag doll. Anyone want to foster her. Don't think she likes me !

Any suggestions to get her to eat ???

Dont watch her. Cats dont like to be watched when they eat. Just leave her too it. She will eat when she is hungry...probably after you leave.

you could try chicken....ours very rarely turn their noses up at chicken - either that or tuna - but don't worry yourself cats will eat when they get hungry

Try buying more expensive catfood - something better than they normally get will usually get them to eat. If she's already on little tins of pate then tuna fish or chicken are the ultimate weapons for most cats!

My mother doesn't believe in cat food. Feeds the thing chicken along as it's breast or tinned tuna or salmon

Always telling her the cat gets fed better than I did when growing up.

Don't leave any avenue for her to get food else where & just maybe put little bits out for her more regularly so it stays fresh.

She's probably pining for your mum. Missing her.

Cats will eat when they get hungry enough. Just like kids do when they protest against not eating their dinner. - if there's nothing else they'll soon change their mind.

Cats can go awhile with out eating, make sure there is some water. She will eat when she's hungry sounds like she's missing your mum

try leaving her some dry food out that she likes and a dripping tap so she can drink

At the moment. I have a neighbour going in the morning and I'm going after work and visiting hours.

You'll never second-guess a cat on what they'll eat. They'll turn their nose up at the finest fillet steak and go mad for cheapo cat food. Princes pilchards in tomato sauce are my suggestion. It's what we use to entice feral cats out with for treatment - works every time.

I have a rag doll, and If I leave him with someone he wont eat either!

I just tell them not to worry, as if he is hungry enough he will eat when everyone is in bed

She's a house cat.

Mines a house cat as well, so I wouldn't worry to much, he doesn't like strange places as this is his domain, but he did eventually eat, when I went away for a long weekend

Ah well go the other way then - buy some decent catfood and she will probably devour it as she hasn't had any for a while.

As an aside, a cat may well be deficient in taurine living on chicken and fish, not sure they contain enough.

my eldest wouldn't eat this morning either. They both usually come running like they have never been fed before but today he just stood staring at the radiator in the hall

I picked him up and took him to the food but he walked away, picked him up again and put him near the food and he walked back to the radiator.

i dont know if he went to eat later as i had to go to work and i dont trust the other one not to have eaten his share.....will need to monitor it i think over the next few days

Cats a fickle things. Dont like change. So if ur doing it in any way slightly different, they well become stubbon. Ive got 3 of them and if I change the food cause the usual isn't in stock, I might as well served them a bowl of slop lol

Dreamies! I swear those things are like crack cocaine for cats.

If she doesn't eat for a couple of days then it can be dangerous. Unlike with dogs, it can upset the chemical balance inside a cat and can lead to some major problems such as liver damage. As long as you get her eating a small amount all will be well

The car we had when I was little went in the huff if we went away & she had to get looked after. She's stop eating as a kind if strop & then shout at us for days when we came home. We used to tear up little strips of ham & feed it to her by hand. Excessive I know, but it worked

Try not to worry the cat will eat eventually when it's very hungry.

Raggies can be stressed very easily by change and they're very people-oriented cats. They bond strongly with their people, more like dogs do.

When I first adopted my two they barely ate for the first two weeks. They'd eat a bit at night when it was quiet but they wouldn't eat during the day.

As long as she's drinking and toileting she'll be fine.

Put the food down and leave her to it. She'll eat when she's hungry. Just concentrate letting her do as she likes when you visit. If she wants attention, give her attention. Otherwise, do your own thing and leave her to hers.

If you try to encourage her to eat, she's more likely not to. Act like you aren't bothered. There's the food, take it or leave it.

Does she play? Is she used to your mum playing with her? Mine have little routines around play. We always play on the bed at night just before sleep time.

One of them loves being brushed too.

Have you tried Feliway? That may help her deal with the change.

My cat was with my mum for 2 months as I was ill and in hospital half that time. The poor thing spent pretty much the hole time hiding and only eating when no one was about. Was hoping she would mate with her tom but no such luck. She just hissed when ever he came near to her. He was surprisingly welcoming considering it was his turff.

Cats really do not like change and can be very stroppy animals very set in their ways
