"I need a Doctor"

No, I haven't caught something (geez! the number of people that wish I had .. wow), but I was wondering the number of times I've heard a similar statement while watching Doctor Who,.. and The doctor gets a phone call from his companion at the time.

Think about it:

Rose Tyler phones Ecclestone's 9th.

Seasons later, she phones Tennant's 10th.

Donna also phones Tennant.

Then Amy Pond phones Smith's 11th.

They bring in Clara Oswald who phones Smith.

And now Clara is phoning Capaldi's 12th.

Aside from massive roaming charges on a galactic scale... how do the companions know which "Doctor" they're phoning?

Put it this way, considering the Doctor travels in time and space all over the shop (and am guessing he doesn't change the phone number of the Tardis often),.. how has Tennant never picked up the phone and gone "Clara who?" or Ecclestone gone "Who the hell are you calling me Raggedy man?"

In short, how do the companions always get THEIR version of the Doctor?

I like your thinking. Good work!

Maybe he takes out a new contract and new number with each regeneration?

Or it's the sonic screwdriver that sorts it all out (well it does everything else!)

But I agree with the poster above who said it's wibbly wobbly timey wimey type stuff

Picture avatars have been around for an age or two , this is another example of successive government repression of technical advances , there are thousands of Tardi mothballed on various airfields , which won't become available to the general public until the last drop of oil has been sold ...what came first ? The Hitachi wand or the Daleks eye ? , you work it out earthling

It's no wonder the tv licence costs so much, they must be passing the call charges onto us lot

they didn't..... dr. who nerd time...

even though dr who travels backwards and forwards in his own time... it is always in the linear time of his companions.....

so when sarah jane smith who was the companion of pertwee and baker... she also shared time with ecclestone and tennant...

besides rose got her own doctor, donna had her mind wiped, and the ponds got theres from the weeping angels....

the only expection to this is river song... who's life goes backwards to the doctors.....

and any non nerd can come back in the room.....
