I am not a badge of honour,

I am not a racist smear,

I am not a fashion statement,

To be worn but once a year,

I am not glorification

Of conflict or of war.

I am not a paper ornament

A token,

I am more.

I am a loving memory,

Of a father or a son,

A permanent reminder

Of each and every one.

Im paper or enamel

I'm old or shining new,

I'm a way of saying thank you,

To every one of you.

I am a simple poppy

A Reminder to you all,

That courage faith and honour,

Will stand where heroes fall.

I don't always wear one but I always donate.

The part about it being some sort of racist statement annoys me, people need to educate themselves and realise that it wasn't just white christians who fought and died.

Just because the EDL etc. have tried to hijack it doesn't mean that wearing a poppy makes you some sort of war mongerer or racist.

Also getting a purple poppy this year.

If, d*unk with sight of power, we loose

Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe—

Such boastings as the Gentiles use,

Or lesser breeds without the Law—

Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,

Lest we forget—lest we forget!.

If any of you are ever lucky enough to visit Berlin, visit the anti war museum.

It changed me

Been to Tyne Cott at Passiondale, but the most overwhelming and moving experience of my life was hearing the last post at Menin gate in Ypres

Menston near Ilkley

A Poem – The Inquisitive Child

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy? Selling poppies in town today.

The poppies, child, are flowers of love. For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy? Why not a beautiful rose?

Because my child, men fought and died in the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy? Why are the poppies so red?

Red is the colour of blood, my child. The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy. Why does it have to be black?

Black, my child, is the symbol of grief. For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain.

My tears are my fears for you my child. For the world is forgetting again.

Have visited the Menin gate several times, both on duty as part of an escort and as a proud parent when both of ours took part in the ceremony..

Tyne cott is moving as is Llangemark..

Rudyard Kipling

Ford o`kabul River

KABUL town`s by kabul river-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

There I lef` my mate for ever,

Wet an`drippin`by the ford.

Ford, ford, ford o`kabul river,

Ford o`kabul river in the dark!

There`s the river up and brimming`,

an` there`s `arf a squadron

Swimmin`

`Cross the ford o`kabul river

In the dark.

Kabul town`s a blasted place-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

`Strewth I sha`n`t forget `is face

Wet an` drippin` by the ford!

Ford, ford, ford o` kabul river,

Ford o` kabul river in the dark!

Keep the crossing-stakes beside you,

An` they will surely guide you

`Cross the ford o`kabul river in

The dark.

Kabul town is sun and dust-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

I`d ha` sooner drowned fust

`Stead of `im beside the ford.

Ford, ford, ford o` kabul river,

Ford o`kabul river in the dark!

You can `ear the `orses threshing`,

You can `ear the men a-splashing`,

`Cross the ford o` kabul river

In the dark.

Kabul town was ours to take-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

I`d ha` left it for `is sake-

`Im that left me by the ford.

Ford, ford ford o` kabul river

Ford o` kabul river in the dark!

It`s none so blooming` dry there;

Ain`t you never coming`nigh there,

`Cross the ford o`kabul river

In the dark.

Kabul town `ll go to hell-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

`Fore I see him `live an`well-

`I,m the best beside the ford.

Ford, ford, ford o` kabul river

Ford o`kabul river in the dark!

Gawd `elp `em if they blunder,

For their boots `ll pull

`Em under, by the ford o`kabul

River in the dark.

Turn your `orse from kabul town-

Blow the bugle, draw the sword-

`Im an` `arf my troop is down,

Down an` drowned by the ford.

Ford, ford, ford o` kabul river,

Ford o`kabul river in the dark!

There`s the river low an`fallin`,

But it ain`t no use o`callin`

`Cross the ford o`kabul river

In the dark.
