Argumentative lot!!!

Why is it that so many people who comment on the forums are so hell bent on starting arguments and jumping down the throats of OPs and other forum users? A lot of threads seem to turn into an argument within 10 comments. Make love not war people. I assume we all joined here for fun not for dramas and grief!

What's wrong with an argument?

I enjoy a love in every once in a while but a good, well reasoned argument is a grand thing.

As some Roman general once said or some Roman dude anyway "if you wish for peace, one must be prepared for war" or something along those lines

Totally agree. There are plenty of sycophantic, fluffy love-in threads for those that like them. A decent debate is no bad thing

A heated debate is fine by me. It's when a lighthearted thread gets dragged down by someone thinking they are doing everyone a favour by patronising or stating obvious crap

"Forums are for arguing surely"

Well, they're really for debate but even during the Roman Republic they tended to devolve into a good old fistfight

I think you'll find some people could start an argument in an empty room or with their own shadow!

As Brian Clough once said about a team talk - we will sit around and discuss/debate things for a while then decide that I am right

I agree regarding a well reasoned argument, but I know what the OP means - there sometimes seems a good few members just want to put the OP down for some perceived wrong in the opening post, even when it's been further explained later in the thread and others jump on the bandwagon (most often pulled by extremely high horses!)

Debates are fine but anyone causing needless disruption can be a pain. There is some behavior that is virtually trolling. Aggressive arguments are also unwelcome.

arguments are for people who are angry they have no intention of listening to your point of view, debates are just reasoned comment where your/their point of view is often changed.

Newcastle and Gateshead

always been of the opinion that if you post something (remembering that no one is holding a gun to your head making you type) and you aren't prepared to at least defend it or listen to others who may not agree with it..... then don't post it in the first place..

I think it does speak to the fragility of some people that they run straight away for the "victim mentality" stance....

Not always. Sometimes people can write the most innocuous post and it is decided on the second post as to how it will go.

Maybe lets put this unrest lately to bed.

After reading the few threads going about cliques etc, it seems to me that people disagreeing isnt an issue for most people , it is HOW people disagree.

Disagree by all means, a good debate is always good but please do it while respecting that persons view as trying to put people down or humiliate them is not in the spirit of the forum plus is obviously unfriendly.

As always, if any threads are too repetitive for you, ignore.
