I recently read that by posting that ur going away for holiday on social network sites, your insurance company could refuse to pay out as u have advertised ur home is empty and ripe for burglars.

Anyone else knows about this?

I think the watchword with insurance is always to read all insurance policies, they all vary in what is covered and what isn't covered and the cheapest policy doesn't always save you money

This hit the news a while ago after a couple of guys from Denmark (or somewhere similar) published a list of info from networking sites to draw attention to the risk.

Its amazing how many people effectively invite burglars or other fraud by thinking the net is a safe and lovely place. Thdey wouldn't put adverts on every lamp post in the street, but will tell 25 million peeps online

Not heard about insurance companies picking up on it, but it was only a matter of time. Suppose its the same as laeving your door open and a welcome sign

most travel insurance is not worth the paper its printed on

if your honest and say you take the odd asprin , or painkiller for your knee its void

you might get away with a very small claim , but if you break 2 legs while skiing , they would check with your doctor and pay you nowt

they will bend over backwards to find something that stops them paying out

the best travel insurance is the one you get free if you have a gold account at Lloyds or Halifax

Had a bag stolen in Ibiza by a Romanian Gypsy gang, never even knew it was gone they were that good at it.....anyway put in a claim that included camera, MP3 player, cash etc.

They paid out very quickly on our return home and we were very satisfied.......until our home insurance came up for renewal and found the travel insurance company had partially claimed against our home insurance, and our home contents insurance premiums had climbed by 30%!

We usually take our holiday insurance out with the post office - only had to claim once but was paid out in full immediately and as it had nothing to do with our house insurance that wasn't affected either. Z

Turned out the Underwriters of our travel insurance and home insurance were the same company, hence they shared the risk.

Was a little bit peeved!

It is if both travel and home insurance underwriters are the same company, we took advice about it and apparantly it isn't uncommon......

Have you actually ever been out of the country lately?

Romanian Gypsies operate all over europe in gangs, they target bars and resturaunts in places like Ibiza and Mallorca and are very handy in stealing womens bags.

And the evidence?, my bag and it's remnants were discovered along with many others in a backstreet garage in Ibiza Town a few days later.

You need to get away from behind your keyboard and get out and see some of the world.....it might shock you.

If in doubt read your small print or ask your insurance company. But which ever its never a good idea to advertise your away. After all the heartbreak and invasion is no different be you covered or not.

All Insurance companies ask weather it is car, house ect that you take reasonable steps to protect what you are insuring, ie don't leave car doors open, don't leave car keys in car, don't leave doors to house unlocked or windows open when leaving house

If you make a claim you should accept your premiums go up, why should people who don't claim pay for those that do

If you have any gripes with insurance companies, which am sure there is many have had some myself, complain to the chief executive and only deal with him, regardless if it is brokered out ie took policy out with Lloyds but under written by Axa only deal with Lloyds, AA cover taking out through Barclays only deal with Barclays

And keep copies of correspondence and don't deal over phone, you may find the phone conversation doesn't relate to the content of the letter
