anyone seen this idea? you can see outside wherever you sit not sure id like this but would stop the arguments about who sits by the window

Aren't they using similar technology on cruise liners? I'm sure I saw on the news something about the most technologically advanced ship coming into Southampton and those with internal cabins had a wall that displayed the _iew outside on it. Something like that.

I think it'd be pretty cool. For a start you'd be able to tell what attitude the aircraft is at at any point in time. My head gets messed up in clouds at times and when the plane rolls it feels like it just keeps on rolling as I have no visual reference to tell me it has stopped. Many pilots died due to this situation in WWI I believe too.

I don't like it. I always have a window seat as it's part of my pleasure from flying.

Others will block your _iew from an artificial screen and it is gonna make the cabin brighter when I like it rimmed for rest. Could agitate some nervous fliers too.

It makes it cheaper for the airlines to fly and they are greedy as their push to charge extras for everything from bags etc would mean they would be the only ones to benefit.

I don't think it'd actually be transparent. I think that somehow images will be captured of what is happening outside by cameras of some kind and then projected on the inner surfaces of the aircraft

It's been tried before. In the Great War, the Jerries built a plane out of Cellon, which looks like cellotape, on the grounds that if it is see through then it would be almost invisible. As it happens, it turned out to be incandescent in sunlight and these planes were the brightest and most visible object for miles around....

I'm curious to know what sort of material such a craft would use. It's got to be capable of taking the strain of near supersonic flight, as well as the dramatic temperature changes a plane experiences.

That's right I was reading an article on it so it's interior is a wall of screens that show the outside - very def a no for me as I'm not a good flyer anyway although each passenger has fhe option of turning it off

If its just a wall of screens then its not real, it sounds more like a simulator?

You could have that same experience in one of those plane things on the ground like they have at amusement parks and pretend you are flying at 40,000 feet.

The article claims they would be lighter and money saving which in turn slashes airfare prices!! I'm not an aeronautical engineer so really don't have a clue but it was interesting reading

As someone from the industry, it would never happen. Well, if it did, it wouldn't be certified to fly! It would need to be one way see through so that from the outside looking in it just looks like a normal plane. That's all for safety reasons.

I assumed it was like the 'invisibility' skin they're currently working on (although it is astronomically expensive) where it projects a real time image onto the skin. It would be incredibly difficult to do it two-sided with the current technology. Although if you did the outside rather than the inside it would be stealthy providing the shape was undetectable as well...
