It could of been a sonic boom from RAF jets that have intercepted an airliner and escorted it to Stanstead.

Could be a sonic boom. If it is someone's gonna have his arse slapped, supersonic flight isn't allowed over populated areas in this country.

Confirmed as a SONIC BOOM.

Why does the media have to try and make headlines with "RUSSIAN" built plane.

I am certain they never describe Boeing planes as American built when they do something.

True. Was the aircraft in question intercepted over land or out at sea?

Because it was a Latvian cargo plane which also happened to be Russian built. I think the alert was probably sparked by recent Russian military exercises.

It was intercepted inland by the looks of the reports, the RAF have apologised and said that it was the quickest way to get to the plane in question

No point in hanging around!

My guess is that they were at altitude so the effects wouldn't have been that bad. I once experienced a female Yank F14 pilot break the sound barrier at less than 400ft in Afghanistan (right over our heads). That rings your bell.

Just listened to a recording of one of the typhoon pilots telling the unwelcome plane that if they don't respond they will shoot them down

Titz Towers, North Notts

I wonder if when our fighter pilot Johnny pushed it through the gate he yelled, 'Sonic boom!' and the Latvian pilot replied with a firm 'Hadorkan'

They'd have had them locked up well before they could even see them and the cargo plane pilots would have known about it.

I was in the garden this afternoon, gardening as you do, when i received a phone call.

"Quick, open your patio doors and your front door".

"Why" i asked.

"Just do it, now".

No sooner had i put the phone down, opened the doors when a pair of F15's flew in and out and dropped off the parcel i'd been expecting, without so much as a yodel.

When the wife asked what the big bang was i just told her the au-pair got a little excited.

Un-fucking-believable.
