popped into local thomas cook today to get price for holiday next year to turkey. got the qoute £1343 for 2 adults one child self catering. when she gave me the price i said to her that i had checked online through the website and it was only £963? she checked it after tellin me i couldnt have been right must be different flights etc low and behold it was! so to anyone lookin into bookin one check it online first ! its a very big difference!

i dont know how they can justify it as its the same company same times etc robbin gits!! x

I'd never go to a Travel Agent, always book online, the savings are massive

it doesn't always work, but if you find a hotel you like, approach them direct and get a price, then sort some cheap flights.

Or decide where and when you can go, and get the flights first, then find a Hotel. There are always rooms available. Hotels rarely get fully booked. You can save loads of cash. Sometimes enough for another holiday

.

I always check online then go into the travel agents and get them to better it.

If you have any probs you still have the help at the agents whereas online you are on the end of a phone

agree...look online first, but in the travel agency they gotta pay wages, rent, rates etc and some people like the knowledge that travel agents can give you about a place especially if its your first time in that city/country...

but like the op did...get your price online first then book through travel agency best of both worlds *simples*

its the same company though just bookin it in shop is well more expensive than doin it through their online service!

online wins that 500 quid could pay for a mini break!

its just galling that the company can do that and makes you wonder how many people have paid over the odds for the same holiday just by bookin it in shop! x

We looked online for our holiday found one with TC but we wanted 3 weeks and they did 2 or 4.

Trawled a few more sites and found the holiday we wanted. When I booked it I realised it was the TC flight from their site and same hotel but £300 cheaper

Our holiday to Cuba was £300 cheaper online but I took the quote into the local travel agent and they matched it in the store - most reputable companies will do this. I much prefer booking in store where I can ask questions etc.

Don't forget comprehensive travel insurance if you do DIY travel arrangements online to save money.

There are often lots of clauses and conditions in the small print and sometimes your not covered for things when you think you are.

I mean what would happen if the airline or travel company were to go insolvent/liqudate? Would you be stranded abroad? Would you get money back if you hadn't gone yet?

Seeing what went on with the British tourists the other week in Turkey, sometimes its safer in that respect to travel with a reputable firm even if it does cost more.

Rushden

We always book our holidays online and we never book a package. We book travel, apartment and cars individually and always get a better deal than any package! We can also make sure we are in a place or apartment WE like and not just what is part of the package

A friend of ours who is in the travel industry will tell customers that they are better off booking a package because of the "protection", but in private she says our way is best because if your tour op goes bust, you have lost the whole holiday. If one element of ours goes bust, that is the only bit we would have to replace. So we still get our holiday

The other thing is because we are not one of thousands trying to get sorted after a collapse, we can book flights, accommodation and anything else at very good rates. Packages are great for the masses who don't mind the stampede to breakfast or the pool, but we have never regretted our method of booking

thomas cook i feel, are startin to rip the hole a bit as many of the small companies have went bust and people are wary of booking incase something does happen so they go to a well know firm like them and i feel they beginnin to exploit this!

many hotels are thomas cook exclusives but the point that sticks with me is the cheaper offer was through a sister company of theirs which means its still basically the same company!! and they wouldnt match the price?? now booked online have same protection as its same company and same flights and same luggage allowance etc but saved 500 quid! new clothes and shoes yay!!!!!!!!!! xx
