So we had a long drive the weekend which to us from one end of England to the other.

Passing through many places.

Got to thinking (not getting into a north south argument)

But if you were to advise someone moving to this country Inc Wales and Scotland.where would you say is best.

Natural beauty

Value

Good facilities

Convenient for travel

Etc

Or just a great place to live

Ignoring the above list.

Having personally lived all over this fair isle can't say anyone place stands out, but being by the sea is great.

We were impressed with Sunderland the weekend tho.

Cornwall or Devon for beauty.

Cotswolds for old English charm.

North Norfolk for salt marshes and estuary life.

As quite a sporty kind of guy I'd say that Norfolk with no premiership football or rugby. Poor transport links. Too big a population of foreigners, nothing against foreigners as such...just spread them out a bit more please. From a swinging point of _iew you have to remember that Norfolk has always been known for inbreeding and webbed feet so be very careful who you swing with, you might be family lol. All a bit tongue in cheek but I do genuinely feel we are the poor relation in many respects.

Somewhere near the coast, the south coast, Hampshire/Dorset, or inland, the Cotswolds, very nice.

Saying that, you can find very nice places within 20-30 of where you live right now, we just don't appreciate they are there.

I went on a rugby tour to South Wales and it was the single most unwelcoming event of my life. That was on the rugby pitch tho, aside from that we were made very welcome lol.

West Wales and Cardiff

"Pembrokeshire,we lived and worked there for three years, lovely people and lovely scenery. "

I'd agree with that, but then I'm biased. I've just finished chatting in my local cafe to a couple on holiday from Oxford who were blown away by the place (they started saying that, I didn't prompt them!).

An important point about the area is that people wash up there from all around the world. It's far away from the centre of things, but there's heaps of good, talented folks around - I count Aussies, English, Kiwis, South Americans amongst my mates.

Don't get me wrong, Wales is a deeply flawed place, with it's fair share if frustrations and knobheads. Get past all that and it's pretty bloody special though.

Of course parts of England, Scotland and NI are great too!

Bristol

I think most years they announce a place thats supposed to be the best area to live in, taking into account factors like quality of life, education, transport links, average healthcare standards, housing stock, property prices, entertainment, bars and clubs etc ... And i think bristol generally wins more often than anywhere else.... Although, as a bristolian, im buggered if i know why.....

There's a few I think are outstanding.

I like it where I am - edge of the Cotswolds, plus surrounded by beautiful hills. Like someone said higher up the thread - best place to live is where your mates are, my friends are mostly in this area, so I'm lucky.

I also love South Devon around Hope Cove particularly. It's quiet , beautiful and feels like going back in time. One day I'd like to live there by the sea.

Kent - Winchelsea and Rye, beautiful buildings and countryside. I've often visited family there and I'd happily live there, if I could afford it !

It must be around nearly 20 years ago now me and my parents travelled to symonds yat where that Large outcrop of rock sticks up above The river there which Is well known For Its peregrines, where we stayed Faced that on a high hill and yes Beautiful scenery we stayed In a stone Cottage of some age It was around September time In the far distance You Could see the "black hills" of wales It was very picturesque Indeed, we Had A roost of pipitstrelles bats In the Cottage roof and they always left at Night from the same corner of the roof And returned back that way presumably Seeing a "few" go back that way they Always followed a path then out of sight there were quite a few present Somewhere near 100 or more, It was overall so pleaseing to see that places like that existed still...
