There may be issues if it's not reciprocal or if things go wrong, but being in love is great and no trouble.

Only love can make it rain

The way the beach is kissed by the sea

Only love can make it rain

Like the sweat of lovers layin' in the fields

Only love can bring the rain

That makes you yearn to the sky

Only love can bring the rain

That falls like tears from on high

On the dry and dusty road

The nights we spend apart alone

I need to get back home to cool, cool rain

I can't sleep, and I lay, and I think

The night is hot and black as ink

Oh God, I need a drink of cool, cool rain

Love, reign o'er me

Nothing.

Being in love is what makes us unique and special.

Yes it may bring unbearable heartache.

But you can't hide from love, embrace it even if it's a fleeting embrace, throw both arms open wide and grab it, hold it tight for as long as you can.

There is too much hate in the world.

We are lucky and have had almost 30 years together and hopefully will have 30 more.

Reminds me of a scene from The Mirror has two faces :

"Experts, scholars and my Aunt Esther are united in one belief:

True love has spiritual dimensions, while romantic love is a lie. A myth. A soulless manipulation.

And speaking of manipulation ...

lt's like going to the movies and seeing the lovers kiss ... The music swells, and we buy it, right?

So when my date kisses me, and l don't hear strings, l dump him.

The question is, why do we buy it?

Because, myth or manipulation, we all want to fall in love.

That experience makes us feel completely alive. Our everyday reality is shattered, and we are flung into the heavens.

lt may only last a moment, an hour, but that doesn't diminish its value.

We're left with memories we treasure for the rest of our lives.

l read, ''When we fall in love, we hear Puccini in our heads.'' l love that.

His music expresses our need for passion and romantic love.

We listen to La Bóheme or Turandot, or read Wuthering Heights, - - or watch Casablanca, and a little of that love lives in us too.

So the final question is: Why do people want to fall in love - - when it can have such a short run and be so painful? -

Propagation of the species?

We need to connect with somebody ?

Are we culturally preconditioned?

All good, but too intellectual for me.

l think it's because, as some of you may already know ... While it does last, it feels fucking great !

All the bad things being described are not about "being in love". They are descriptions of the pain of the absence of love or the one sided nature of a love they feel.

Yes, it hurts like nothing else when you love someone and it is not reciprocated or if you have had a great love and that has been lost through death (relationship ending fits under non-reciprocity).

Being in love feels wonderful and makes the world seem a better place. I don't think there is anything bad about that.

Ah, well I have a bit of a view that the being in love when it isn't reciprocated isn't being in love at all.

Being in love happens when you are both engaged in the activity. The other stuff is the madness of chemicals, lust, a deep need to be loved and/or enjoying the buzz of a new person.

I agree with poster above that says it doesn't exist.

Love or attachment is not an emotion. It is instinct. We think we love because it ensures procreation determing survival of our race. It also ensures protection, we feel love we feel secure and protected. Less vulnerable.

That said. I could be talking rollox. But that is my theory

I think it starts as falling in love but because it is unrequited it can distort the feelings of love and therefore the unrequited lover's behaviour.
