There seems to be an out break of these little devils lately, everytime the door opens in the evening about 4 or 5 of the little sods will come flying in, anyone else noticed more than the usual kicking about.

Erm you mean crane flies ? Or daddy long legs ! They breed during the autumn . Very short lifespan . Dragonfiles are massive and you're lucky to see one . Plus they sting and bite . Awsome creatures

Horseflies look a bit like normal files but give a horrid itchy bite. I'll have to google dragonflies regarding the sting . . I know their larvae are vicious things . They live in water and eat anything that moves

Dragon flies have a nasty bite.

We get them quite a lot around here, they're like Cuban cigars with wings.....bloody massive.

The interweb is wrong. I've been bitten several times (I spent a good part of my childhood playing near a reservoir) and it always broke the skin.

"Don't think dragonflies actually do bite or Sting "

No. It's a myth. They don't even have a sting.

They rarely approach humans. Some of the red Darters will land on your hand if you're patient and still but they don't bite

How about do a little research yourself? You obviously have a computer, then you can learn that Dragonflies, Daddy Long Legs etc etc are completely harmless and don't need persecution, but more conservation.

If anything's in your house then gently place them outside so either they can carry on naturally or be food for something else.

Central

The seasons this year have been kind to many of our insects. Mild winter and warm till now. Lots of breeding and food. I've had a few around but the abundance of spiders outdoors has helped stop them.

We may notice them more due to the mild weather, as doors open more etc.

Guess I've been super unlucky, having been bitten several times....
