"The EU has demanded that the U.K. pay an extra £1.7 billion because our economy is doing better than expected. Discuss." Maybe they actually want ukip to win? can only be good news for them!?

"I have to confess this is all* Labour's fault. * almost" How? I can only find one story about it and it explains nothing, well Camoron says its not fair and he is going to gang up with other countries who have been asked to pay as well. Then the EU say it's just like when earnings go up and you pay more taxes...

"I have to confess this is all* Labour's fault. * almost How? " Where have you been for the last 10 years or so??? Gordon Brown decided to use the wonga school of finance. Borrow some money, realise you can't afford to pay it back, so borrow more money to pay for the first loan. Slaps forehead and realises that the second loan is costing more than the first one so has the cracking idea to borrow yet more money etc ect... Then to top it off decides to sell all the gold when it's at it's lowest price in years... The biggest worry is Labour still can't see anything wrong with this...

"If there is some kind of clause in the budget agreements that states the amounts due varies depending on economic performance...that seems an an odd sort of arrangement. " Yes it seems there is a link between revenues raised and contributions paid to the EU.

Yet the reason for this demand is that Britain's economy did so well (mostly) under Gordon's stint at the Treasury.

"Gordon Brown decided to use the wonga school of finance. " Strange thing is that borrowing has increased dramatically in the last 4 years, so are you saying that the current government is actually run by Gordon Brown?

"Part of the reason for the 1.7 billion rise is due to the EU deciding that the black economy has to be taken into account (drugs prostitution, illegal booze & cigs etc.)" Politics never makes sense to me. Doubt anyone pays tax on this stuff? I know you're supposed to but... Also, if you deduct the cost of crime (including shoplifting, due to sanctions) then it must pan out? Might be this money is a punishment for our government? As in an indirect way of telling them they are cunts who have to pay for the inequality they are causing and the hardship they have forced onto some of the most vulnerable in society? That's what I wish it was anyway.

Labour can't help themselves, they have got to spend spend spend... Like druggies they needed the cash so they sold off all the gold cheap... Don't get me wrong the Tories are far from perfect...

Hmm ok. Hardly any politics makes sense to me if I'm honest. I'm voting green again. Not impressed with any if the main parties at all. We could do with a poor/old fashioned people's party, one where people have old fashioned scrimping skills and the knowledge on how to fix things yourself. And they know a bargain when they see one so don't waste money. And are strict enough to say no to the mega-wealthy when they want bailouts. A party that doesn't let naughty kids misbehave or act like spoilt, entitled brats.

"Yes it seems there is a link between revenues raised and contributions paid to the EU. " Yes, an the 'revenues raised', or economic growth figures, now include the 'black economy' i.e. drugs and prostitution. It's complete bollocks and even more amazing is that no-one at The Treasury appears to have been aware of this.

"this goes back to '95 so the irony is that Brown was the Chancellor for a large part of the period that this applies to.. yes he made mistakes as has this latest one.. the IMF figures on GDP from the time he was Chancellor to just before the global financial crash were something that this present guy has yet to achieve.. on borrowing, anyone care to say what it is now and forecast to be for several yrs yet? some times one would think were are living in a land of milk and honey.. its only gong to get tougher no matter who is in office.. " Your right
