Seems that Marvel/Disney are going to re-release the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack on Cassette tape. Shame I have nothing to play cassettes on now

#retro

Nowadays, we can steal any song we want, but it doesn't seem the same as to recording it of the radio, and that long lost skill of missing the DJ's voice or the radio jingle.

I used to record every song from the Chart Show years ago, it last 2 hours on a sunday.

Then they meddled with it, they stuck the album chart on first, then some other bollocks, it ended up starting about 3pm.

I used to press pause/record to avoid David Kid Jenson's voice too and then using the same tape next week I would put sellotape over the flaps at the top of the cassette so you could record over.

Then the bastard thing would jam, all the tape would come out and you had to carefully wind it back on with your finger or a pencil.

Oh I remember it well. Now I have whatever music I want at the click of a mouse.

Yes, cassettes are still being made, but they are usually done by smaller independent labels. They are also fuelling a revival in vinyl as well.

A fave label of mine, Stones Throw Records, has recently held a pop-up shop event selling just cassettes of material by artists on its label.

Apparently, there have been no platinum albums so far this year.
