We are sitting in bed ... And the topic has turned to the casket that sits next to my bedside. This contains the ashes of my dog. Jason thinks this is weird and is trying to convince me to let him go in exchange for a real life chihuahua ... Thoughts lol

I lost my beloved bearded collie last month and her casket of ashes have pride of place beside a picture of her in the sitting room.

I have however got a little scottish terrier puppy now, I just couldn't bear the emptiness I felt without her.

Ummmm why can't you keep the casket and get a new puppy (if you want one)?

I keep my cats ashes in a casket on my dressing table, and that's precisely where she'll stay. But then I don't have a bloke in the house so consideration for others feelings don't come in to it.

My dogs ashes are in a woven pocket type pounce with a small name plaques and a pic beside. When his life long partner goes in a few years, they will both be mixed and go In a bigger pounce where they will both have a name plaque and the photo will change to both of them. xx

Please stop encouraging her, we'll see how comfortable she feels when my dearly beloved mother does go and we've to sleep next to her in a box.

I have only raised the getting rid of the ashes, because she will never do it and then we don't have to get a chihuahua

Thanks for all the comments (op) , my wee westie (Jock) was my 1st dog and I received him as a Christmas present from my folks. In his life time I learned to drive , left home and had 2 kids. That final day as I stood strocking his head in the vets and leaving just with his collar and lead in my hand still brings a tear to my eye. I've just never found the right place to bury him or scatter him. My wee faithful friend that saw me grow up. Having his casket for many years maybe has made it harder just to let go.

I have the ashes of my cat on the mantelpiece. I have no intention of keeping her there but I haven't yet decided what to do.

I'm now considering another pet, but after watching Catwatch I have come to the conclusion that her brother won't welcome another cat and it may be time for me to get the dog I've often considered getting.

But not a chihuahua! I'd like a standard poodle.

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

There are companies than can take ashes and make them into jewellery - a glass type thing - either rings or a necklace. Perhaps that would be more suitable than a wee casket of ashes?

Rather than keep a casket , when we lost our staffy Vincent 8 years ago we forund someone who makes those garden statues,we had him make a model of vince but with his ashes in it,he's been pride of place in our garden now,we have two westies now

I think I may bury him in the garden and mark the area with a plant of some sort. We have a staffy (or should I say Jason has) they are lovely dogs.

Why don't you contact ashes to glass? They make fantastic products from ashes, like necklaces rings or other stuff that way rather than having the ashes in a casket they are always with you.

You can never let go, and it's hard to welcome a new dog into the home, I'm still 2 years after my dogs passing and still upsets me now.

Even I didnt go that far, my husbands ashes are in the wardrobe,

the cover is velvet so it would get dusty under the bed at pillow level which he would have absolutley hated, I have other things to remind me of him, like when I open the drawer and there are his socks still all neatly lined up as he liked them!

Awww I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think people without pets understand how much they touch our life's. Jason has 2 doggies we refer to them as the fur kids.
