Probably not really what you're asking, but I got a genuine compliment the other day from an old lady who must have been 80+, who stopped to me to tell me she had been admiring my lovely hair. It sounds incredibly daft but an honest little compliment like that with no hidden agenda put a wee spring in my step and smile on my face. Given that confidence and happiness are seen as attractive traits by most, does that mean I was more attractive to others for the rest of the day?

Beautiful is such a strong term that on the very few occasions someone has said it to me (as in in person) it made me feel completely embarrassed and almost like I needed to laugh it off. Except for when someone I love said it to me. I believed him.

Beauty and attractiveness are not the same thing. I do believe that a beautiful women can become more attractive by changes in her demeanour or mood. A genuine compliment can certainly impact demeanour or mood.

Being complimented by someone I don't know doesn't do anything for me. The nearest I had to a compliment from someone I know well was when I asked a regular partner if he thought I was ugly. He answered with I've never fucked an ugly woman in my life. That will do me

I appreciate that many on here are not genuine but one of the most attractive female traits in my opinion is the ability to accept an honest compliment in the right way.

A genuine compliment is rarely given lightly, so it can be off putting when it is just dismissed.

Actually thinking more about it I think it could do, for myself I think confident people are more attractive, they could be more confident because they have been told they are beautiful. As a youngster I always used to tell my buttys if you are confident you can get anyone you want, maybe that was arrogance, or it could have been because people told me I was beautiful, who knows but it worked.

I don't really take that much notice of it on here.

I obviously love being told by my OH, it does make me feel happy. I was also told it by a young woman. I was in Torture Garden dressed as Marie Antoniette and she approached me and said that she just had to tell me how beautiful I was. I was very flattered because the make up was rather bizarre and I felt appreciated for my efforts.

Nope it makes me feel slightly uncomfortable, if someone says "you're an Attractive woman" I can handle that, or "you have a beautiful personality" that's ok , but beautiful !! Really !!!!

Everyone is beautiful to someone.

I actually think it's a bit big headed of people that say they never ever believe any compliments at all. It's like saying their own opinion matters more- everyone else is wrong. They are so awful that no-one would ever look at them with fondness and see beauty... seriously??! Get a grip.

Some have self esteem issues so I think it's unfair to say that.

It takes time often for it to sink in that they are beautiful on the inside and out.

I get told I'm beautiful quite a lot on here but to be honest I don't take that much notice. The only time I did is when I went to see my nan in hospital and the last time I saw her she said you are beautiful my duck don't let anyone tell you different. That was my true acceptance that actually I'm alright in the looks department.

It goes deeper when that happens.

Showing love for oneself was seen as negative when I was growing up so I try to forget that and find the positives in my personality.

Well that's my humble opinion on it.

No I don't think so. The only person who would be able to confirm that is the person who made the original compliment.

It would be even better if the person you thought was beautiful, thought you were beautiful too, then you could get together, and make a doubly beautiful baby!

It'd be a bit like Belgian Double Chocolate ice cream, except as a baby "

The trouble with beauty, is that beauty magazines and products make you feel ugly. The images are unattainable or fleeting.

Is beauty about a certain look?

Our idea of physical beauty can be shaped and/or influenced by the current zeitgeist.

I see quirky looking people who exude beauty to me.
