did anyone see watchdog earlier where it seems if you contact your mobile phone provider and tell them you want out of your contract cos you are getting no or very little signal so cant use your phone in your house they charge you to get out of your contract sometimes hundreds of pounds

I always thought you had a couple of weeks to return the handset if you were unhappy; O2 let me return mine a few years back because of signal problems. I guess it's another story if you up sticks half way through your contract though.

You do and if you are getting on one line they push you to check your post code out first. Its a contract its fair for both parties to honour it and in general they companies keep improving reception not the making it worse.

I believe on any credit agreement there is a 14 day cooling off period so you've got two weeks to find the sweet spot where your phone works before you can't send it back!

There are probably ways to get out of it. You just have to know where to look and quote the relevant bits of legislation.

I was with 3 a few years ago and had been for some time, had no problems. One day suddenly I had no signal in the house at all. I called and was told there was a problem locally, it'll be fixed in x days etc. Still no signal. Then a Facebook friend who lives in Birmingham posted saying she'd had the exact same problem since the same date as me. But she'd eventually been told by 3 that it was due to them no longer paying other phone networks for the privilege of piggybacking their network if the 3 network wasn't strong enough in an area. They'd turned it off on the date we lost our service. She'd been let out of her contract.

So I called them and they admitted that was the reason why, let me out of my contract and let me keep the handset which I promptly sold for a couple of hundred squid whilst signing up to Orange.

i wasnt talking about a new phone one lady had a phone and moved house but got no reception at her new house and a guy found the mast was broken in his area so he suddenly had no signal ,the phone companies state they dont have to guarantee you get a phone signal in your house
