Start small and simple, I had s near fatal accident in June and still not right. Try 12 months on a basic simple bike before upscaling.

first big bike? fk me, you need more info than you've given before anyone here can help you lolol.

you only just started riding?

got short or long legs?

you want the buzz, or just a ride on 2 wheels?

what have you ridden before? (even if only learning or test)

what did you like about that/those bikes?

what do you want out of biking?

will you just commute, pootle on a sunday, or tour?

oh and possible more importantly.. do you have funds to maintain some higher end sports (just to keep them in peak condition.. a lot can be shagged like a £1 hooker.. but they always make you put your hand in your pocket if you're not careful)

I'd go along with all the others recommending an SV650. I had one and it was a great little bike. If you're going from a 125cc I'd think having an SV for a yr will give you the experience you need before going bigger.

When I passed my bike test my first bike was a VFR 400, After 2 years I got an RF 600, after a few years I got a R6.

My mate got a ZXR 750 after passing his test, he crashed it after 3 months of riding and killed himself due to not being able to handle the bike properly.

Don't be in a rush to get a big bike, enjoy the smaller bikes first and work your way up to what you really want.

Get something east to ride and ride it a lot. All weathers, all conditions, just to get some experience. Also, learn how to maintain it and fix it! Forget fashion for a while. Cheap is good as well, you may well dink it in the first year and pretty bikes tend to have lots of expensive, breakable bits.
