"Comedy isn't about ticking boxes on a political correctness form! It's about making people laugh!" So said Bernard Manning...

"We went to see him last night and he was pretty funny. He is the comedian of Iranian descent. A lot of his material include jokes about Nigerians, Jews, Arabs and the Middle East in general, and even threw in a 'Paki' joke- his words, not mine I don't find these kind of jokes funny. I just thought if it was a white guy saying this, there would be uproar. My question is, does coming from the region give someone the right to do this sort of material? " Political correctness is spoiling comedy

" I think poking fun at a group you are part of is ok, as long as it isn't nasty. The same as anyone else, doing it. You just have more insight into it. "

"It's only racist, sexist, offensive etc if the joke is coming from a white, heterosexual, Christian male. If you happen to be anything else then you have a free pass." There is more than a grain of truth in that.

"I met him a while back and he is a really funny polite gentleman. I find his act funny and he does say it is not done to offend. " He is very funny lol! I do think it all depends on the particular personality of the comedian too. They have to be affable. As long as there is no malicious intent there, (to pit one group against another, for example) that it's purely observational etc, it's funny

"It's only racist, sexist, offensive etc if the joke is coming from a white, heterosexual, Christian male. If you happen to be anything else then you have a free pass." The silly thing is the majority of the minority like the jokes and it's the pc brigade who get offended for them

How many Vietnamese people complained? I'm betting it was less than 10 and quite possibly zero. It was most likely a gang of what Jezza likes to call 'saggy breasted sandle enthusiasts'.

I take great offence at that I wore sandals when I was 10, and I lost weight when I began to get concerned about my moobs starting to sag. Shame on you sir

" I don't think region of birth/religion/colour of skin gives people the automatic right to tell specific jokes and you will always get people who are offended so its a no win on this its more to do with the nature and if the joke demeans a specific group that is the issue.

Most of his act is very funny and overall I enjoyed it. I didnt find the racist stuff funny. The 'paki' joke was a throw back to the 70s.

"He was in Arse End for the the second time 2 weeks ago (yep, an Iranian in a white Northern inbred enclave) and he mentioned that he'd seen a big police presence in the town (think there'd been a bit of a kick off at the local prison)...I couldn't resist, I commented that they'd had intel that there was a middle easterner in the area...have to say, it got a good laugh from all, including Omid and he complimented me on it when I was chatting to him afterwards " Ha ha love this!!
