Like when he helped rebuild that old ship, and the beam engine? His love of engineering is infectious and if only the kids of today could do something more industrious with their lives then this nation would be a far greater place.

Each entitled to their own opinion.

What you have to consider is his profession as a motorcycle racer.

Clearly, this is dangerous and adrenalin fuelled which is much the same as his shows.

As an engineer, I like how he gets involved and wants to understand the whys and wherefores of what he is doing

I can relate.

BUT...

...that doesn't make him any LESS stupid.

Like last week, when I came off my bike and had to superglue my arm back together on the side of the track...my ability to actually glue my own arm back together ONE handedly doesn't make me any LESS stupid either than him, even though imho he is stupid.

Hello all,

although I understand the reason for all the diversions into history and the flying, I would have preferred the whole time to have been devoted to the construction rather than just the few snippets.

The only technical mistake was that pin being too hot by being held in his hand and the statement that it was three tenths of a thou (3x10-4) too large because of his body heat. The coefficient of expansion of steel is about 12 x 10-6, you do the mathematics.

its no good quoting chapter and verse about the expanding pin .. it didnt fit ... fact ... they measured it .. they left it .. it got cold again . slid in the hole.. job done ... or they shoved it back in the grinding machine and skimmed it down a bit ... why make a fairy tale load of bollocks when i believe the warm pin story

I won't hear anything against Guy Martin:

Top TT racer ( so he is a God right there).

Scania Master Technician and still gets his hands dirty (I am also a SMT so have to think he is a God!)

He has raced with Rossi (so one God thinks he is a God)

He loves engineering and skills and materials and detail and how things were made and the history attached and has no airs and graces like most know nothing 'presenters'.

Want to see the REAL Guy Martin:

"Errrrrrrrm, perhaps I shouldn't ask this question but............. what's the point of building an out of date fighter plane?

*hides under bed "

It can never be out of date as its a timeless and magical piece of aviation history that will forever be entwined in our fight for freedom when no one gave us any chance. And what they did give us cost us a fortune (didn't it Mr Roosevelt?). It a bit unfairly outshines the Hurricane but if you want to know why it is timeless and priceless here is a quote:

Goerring: "Gentlemen what do you need to beat this RAF?"

A very brave Major replies " A squadron of Spitfires Herr FeldMarschall!"

"*nit picking but always preferred the Hurricane and the last P51D Mustang with a bubble canopy...."

Of course the Mustang ( a name given by the RAF) was designed by and built for the British by North American. Sadly they thought the US Allison engine would do. It didn't. And it was only when an RAF bod asked Rolls to magic a Merlin (did you see how I did that) into a Mustang 1 (or P51A) that its potential was released. P51B, C and D all had Merlins most built by Packard in the US.

A Mosquito please. Bit tricky asymmetrically but apart from that what a machine.

Watch the low level stuff of them bombing the Gestapo HQ in a town, flying straight up the high street at about 40'!!!

Guy Martin is awesome, I have been fortunate enough to actually meet him. I love how he is passionate about his work/interests. The man gives 100% in everything he does...

A legend in my opinion!
