Why do women have the tyranny of numerical sizes, and men have never been graded that way, even for kilts. Any thoughts?

Mostly because I have no idea what I am.....I have clothes ranging from 12 to 16...they all fit!

But it's adjustable from 32" to 36 "

Fair enough, I just think the whole sizing thing makes many women feel bad; men dont have the same pressure.

Personally, to me, a number is just a number...

I have clothes from a size 18 to a 24. I tend not to think about the size I buy whatever size fits and flatters my body. I won't buy something and squeeze into it just because it maybe a size 18.

Because it is all subjective and sometimes photo's can be misleading...

I try and be honest and upfront, even though I am a size 8, I am realistic and advise I do have wobbly bits in the usual places!

Yes, I wish we didn't have to point out our dress sizes but I've found that if I don't then get talking to someone, they will bring up the subject and if a curvy figure with lots of wobbly bits doesn't do it for them, I've had some rather rude comments about being bigger than what they want. So now I point out that I'm in the cuddly section of the ladies sizing spectrum and if that doesn't meet someone's ideals then they don't need to contact me and I don't get the nasty comments

I wouldn't mention my dress size in our profile or A's waist or chest size. I think it's quite clear from our photos what our build is.

I do agree that dress size is a tyrant if you let it be and some ladies do let it.

Guys have shirt sizes too though - as in neck size, plus waist and inside leg. Then S,M,L,XL or XXL.

No idea why ours is numerical, but I guess we have bra sizes too.

I do put my size on my profile , so there is no misunderstanding as to my size. That's the result of a nasty comment on a social meet when I first joined. I feel more comfortable having it there.

I don't use mine as a tyrant, I state mine to allow others know why I choose the type of men that I do, after all I am petite why would I be attracted to the larger man? Sorry, just my preference

I don't think my dress size has ever come up with a potential meet. If they have to ask then I'm not interested. They can see from my pics what I look like. That should be good enough.

but the label said 14 so I couldn't buy it"

I thought that the term in general was shortened from "dress size" and introduced on the basis that, in general, women wear dresses which are a one-piece item, and men, except at weekends, tend to wear separates. I think it was an American thing originally.
