Peter Cox, 49, is seeking legal advice over the incident which started when he was stopped on suspicion of driving a BMW without insurance.

He spotted a patrol car following him and pulled over at his friend's house in Bridgwater, Somerset, where he was doing landscaping work on July 13.

The officer pointed the Taser at him for a few seconds before lowering the weapon.

At this point, it discharged, hitting the father-of-one's groin and ankle.

Unemployed Mr Cox, who suffers from Guillain Barri syndrome, fell to the ground in agony and he was treated by paramedics on the front lawn.

He denied being aggressive and said the insurance company confirmed the car had valid insurance immediately after he was stopped.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the weapon was discharged by accident and that an investigation was under way.

Now to me that sounds like a Bobby wanting to try his new toy out!

Ahhhhhhh, but I have thought of that... does the car battery or jump leads carry a warning that they are not to be used for zapping the danglies? I think not.... so where there's blame there's a claim

It says unemployed, not benefit claiming.

He could be retired or well off enough to not claim which is all legal and above board.

A taser fires out 2 separate probes connected back to the taser gun with separate wires.

So it is possible for one of them to hit his groin and the other to hit his ankle.

never usually respond to these, but feel the need to, working for the police, you never know the full story, there is always a lot more to it, believe me, he wont of just been stood there like butter wouldnt melt!!! And who would be the first people you would ring if you were in trouble, dont expect you would slag them of then!!!

there not, not every officer is, they go under weeks of training but told in the end to use what they have got if they feel in danger, like i said before he will not of just been standing there, i know from experience

Where's the safety in being beaten up by a customer at 5pm in front of dozens of witnesses?

I *KNOW* that individual police officers have a difficult job...but as a group, when I've needed them...they've been useless.

So you'll have to forgive me for not getting too worked up about the pressure they're under...

fair enough, but if you feel like that dont call them, there's more deserving people who need them and who actually need them, you wouldnt believe the crap we are called out to, thats is tying up the time for the people that genuinly need them, only human, only so many hours in a day, do it cos want to make a difference, when quite frankly its impossible. sorry if going on, but close to my heart

personal experience of police.

read in local paper excuses why they cant attend call outs, under staffed etc.

get present and go round to show them my driving license, 4 or 5 of them sat round in front of computers doing sweet fa and that was the view from the counter, god only knows how many there were out of view.

not impressed.

here i go again, firstly are you sure they were actually officers and not police staff, and if were officers, you would not believe the amount of paperwork thats involved, and admittely thats been looked at. you dont get breaks, you can be kept on without any notice, working a 14 hour shift is not unusual, you have no social life. Think i better shut up now

Only because its illegal to take the law into your own hands...otherwise they smack head who burlged my daughter wouldnt be walking anymore!

I even found the guy when they were still looking for him..but I left it in their hands and lo and behold...he got away with it..

I admire the ol bill they do indeed do a very difficult and thankless..nasty job too if your in big cities....I certainly couldnt do it..but dont give it the 'we are perfect/never do anything wrong routine'...I dont know about percentages..but id hazard a guess that 95% of coppers are decent and competent..the others give you a bad name...its up to you lot to deal with them from within and shop them.

yes cos its not like that in every profession!!! absolutly there is always a element which is wrong, which drags everybody else down, but dont drag down the people who care and do do a good job, where would we be without the police!!! and as for not going anywhere thats not the police thats the cps, trust me we would convict everybody thats done wrong. I really will shut up now

Do us a favour ...its a well paid job..no social life?..I now plenty of serving officers (friends and relations) they certainly do have a social life, no breaks?...14 hour shifts?..all for 30k a year...

Accept that most of us here and the majority of the general public have the upmost respect for the police..I have never bene in trouble, and have always helped them, always will..but please spare us the hard done by stuff..

You must have heard the phrase 'they are only human after all'...well that sums it up..they wouldnt do a job like that if they wasnt.

Glam you need to chill a bit...you cant defend who whole of the UK's police force...personally im glad their are people like you out there who are passionate and consciencious...but slow down mrs your going to be heading for a breakdown..just carry on doing your job well..thats all you can do..x

really dont need to be patronised!!!, and trust me i am chilled but pisses me off people who slag the police but wouldnt think twice in calling them, yes there is a social life, bloody deserved, the majority of officers do the job cos they do care, but like any walk in life there is the minority that lets everybody else down, but to be slagged off cos you've had one bad experience doesnt put faith into the ones that actually care!!!

I'll slag the police off, and call them when I need them and see no contradiction, seeing as I'm paying their wages with my hard-earned taxes. They are there to serve the public, not that most of them realise it.

Glam, I hope you type your paperwork to the CPS better than you do here, you know, capitals, punctuation, line breaks, spelling etc? So much easier to get convictions when the paperwork is in legible English!!

(And don't go off on one either, I'm only gently taking the piss, not having a go. I'm here for the tits, not the tit-heads. Deep breath aaaaand smile!)
