Completely wasted day today . After struggling to work for the last two days with flu, have spent most of today in bed ( something which I never do , always active and doing things ). Lots of people at work have it . Probably not helped by the fact that there is no sick pay scheme , even for managerial staff so people come in and it gets passed around . Any good tips as to how to avoid it . ?

I've been off all week with flu. It's been rotten. I really think a hot toddy is the only thing that helps and sweat it out.

You will have a sore arm and possibly very slight symptoms but far and away the best side effect is you are much less.likely to have flu. I have one every year having had proper flu twice in my life....I never, EVER want it again.

I had my flu jab on Thursday, the only year I didn't get it was last year (due to laziness) and was really ill with the cold all over Christmas, the only reaction I have ever had with it was a very tender arm for a few days, but I would recommend it compared to having the flu, I haven't had it for years

. Get well soon. I am annoyed at wasting a day , but a week is even worse . I always eat freshly cooked food , but dropped my standards to night and had a micro waved chilli.

Usefull information. For some reason I assumed that flu jabs were for the elderly . After today think I will have one in future .

They do them in Tesco for nine quid and my previous employer provided them.

Real flu is terrible and takes weeks to recover properly from often leaving you with secondary infection and mildly depressed.

My work supplies them plus I get mine free anyway as I am asthmatic, would really hate to have the flu along side having asthma think I would still pay for it if I didn't get it for free

lol I used to think that - until contracting pneumonia through complications of flu during my mid twenties. Have to admit , I suffered some awful side effects with flu jab first time having it, but well worth it in long run I think

. Just hope I do not have the real flu. Had it once and did take about three weeks to recover. Even went to the Doctors and he just told me to rest

True. "

I was told the test was if you had FLU and someone dropped £50 by the side of your bed, you wouldn't move.If you did it was a BAD COLD

I had my first ever flu jab this morning and so far , no side effects. From what I recall the NHS offer to the elderly but also to those who would be classed as vulnerable if they caught it.

"If you have FLU, you won't be able to get out of bed. "

Exactly what I was thinking when I read the OP. Chances are that what you have is a cold. There is a pretty nasty cold doing the rounds atm (I've got it) and it's not just here in sunny Brum.

This cold is lasting between 10 & 14 days.

I know that mine is definitely a cold coz my son got it a week before giving it to me two days after I had my flu jab and having had flu before, I agree that you wouldn't be able to get out of bed, never mind making it to the microwave for food.

Just keep up the fluids, that's the most important thing to do

And not just for a day or two either, you would be flat out for the best part of a fortnight

Only had flu twice in my life, it's absolutely awful and took me down for never three weeks both times.

Honestly though, my advice (other than the flu jab which personally I have never had) is regular exercise, plenty of fresh fruit and veg. Avoid letting your core get cold.

When you get a cold, stop, rest, sleep. Your body will fight off infection faster if you rest and let it deal exclusively with the infection, rather than making it deal with everything else you do on a daily basis.
