My favourite used to be toasted on a real fire, lashings of butter so it drips through as you bite into it.

Pontypridd

I tried one for the first time last week, it was dripping in butter and awful, not sure if its a taste you need to get used to but I didn't enjoy it at all, buttery toast however...

Northampton

got to be dripping in butter (with salt crystals in) either as they are, with a bit of cheese or marmite on.

Preston

I love them but they need to be nuked until they crunch. Some people like them just warm so they are the texture of human skin... YUCK. Also, a slab of cold cheese works wonders.

And... try with jam and squirty cream

Butter and marmite. Or dip them in egg and do them like a crumpety French toast. Proper lush!

slightly crisped on the base before turning over and grilling with cheese that you get slightly burned, but so it is still soft inside.

followed by 2 or three more!

I always want three though

The first with Marmite, the second with butter and the third with pineapple jam.

Where's Bussy to extol the joys of crumpet bread?

I wonder if I have time to get some when I'm in Manchester next week? I might need someone to deal me some.

I thought it was only available at Greenhalgh's. I'm there late on Wednesday and then back on the chuffer Thursday afternoon.

I've got a nice room for the night though and wondering if I should do anything other than shower and sleep there.

Toasted with melted blue cheese

As an aside; has anyone else noticed how fire proof crumpets are? I sometimes leave them under the grill for ages and they never burst into flames - maybe NASA should've used them on the shuttle instead of those expense tiles - the astronauts could've scoffed them when they'd landed.
