So Universal have put out the cast list for the remake, and it's being filmed in Yorkshire....

Toby Jones, who has recently appeared in BBC One's Marvellous, will play Captain Mainwaring

Bill Nighy will take the role of Sergeant Wilson, originally played by John Le Mesurier

Sir Tom Courtenay will attempt to fill the boots of Clive Dunn as Corporal Jones

Danny Mays, who has starred in TV shows like Public Enemies and Outcasts, will play Private Walker

The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison will take Ian Lavender's role as 'stupid boy' Private Pike

Sir Michael Gambon, star of Harry Potter and The Singing Detective, will step in as the ageing Private Godfrey

Bill Paterson, seen in TV's Outlander and 37 Days, will be Frazer, whose catchphrase was 'We're doomed'

Christ, this was dull when it was on TV. I hated being at my grandparents when it was on, because they loved it!

Appears to be a somewhat un PC cast. You sure it's genuine?

How would you make it more PC? An ethnic family and a lesbian couple?

"How would you make it more PC? An ethnic family and a lesbian couple?"

Could have some Wrens in it, or maybe Vera Lynn singing about some blue birds.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I think it is a good cast, although I note Catherine Zeta Jones is in it and I've never been convinced of her credentials. I think it risks falling flat, though, due to the heritage it carries from the telly.

I am afraid I was never a fan. It really did not tickle my fancy and just brought to mind crap slapstick. But each to their own as they say.

Wasn't all that enamoured as a kid but that was because the subtleties of the scripts and characters went over my head

Great scripts, great characters, great actors

Best left alone. It will be hyped to death and we will be told how great it is by TV media.

Good cast but a daft idea. TV show was a classic which will not be matched.

"Don't forget kathryn zeta Jones is in it as well, "

Who's she playing?

A good cast but it'll never be as good as the original. The cast and writing was sheer genius

To use a tired catchphrase, it's doomed.

It'll be running against a decades old quality example of British eccentricity, and comedy gold that it is just never going to live up to.

Sometimes it's best to leave people with the good memories rather than flogging it for every last penny they can get out of it.

"Hopefully it will be funny this time around "

You can't say it wasn't funny. The correct phrase is "I didn't find it funny". The fact that it's now being made into a major film is testament to the fact that a lot of people found it funny. True, a lot of those people are now in care homes but that's beside the point!

She's playing a journalist who is doing a piece on the home guard, basically just crow barred her in so there's a woman in it

In the main the TV series was brilliant with a couple of not so good ones at times and it was very much about the writing and character development.

The new film needs to be compared to the original film that was done as the production values will be different.

The new cast seems good, but it also seems somewhat like for like, which beggars the question why bother.

I loved the original, and will no doubt look forward to the remake, with a little trepidation.

Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier were a class act.

the show was well written and funny..but it should be left in the era it was made.

why the fuck are we going back in time with so many remakes/retellings?..

seems I'm stuck with reality TV and stories I pretty much know about.
