Litter . . In 2014 ? Really

I know i know. . It's not on the same scale as house break ins or kidnapping etc. . But why do seemingly everyday folks still think it's ok to chuck litter out of the car window or leave it in the park after a picnic . Football coaches teaching kids often leave water bottles just lying there. What does it say about their attitude ? Am i just being a self righteous git ?

No i agree it does my head in

i live next door to a chip shop and every single day I go out and full a bag of chip papers off my front garden, people come out the chippy, open their food and just drop it over my wall as they walk by, there are two bins outside the chips shop, why do people think using my garden is acceptable

People have always dropped litter and I think it indicates that certain people have always had no regard whatsoever for anyone else.

In a similar vein I'm frequently shocked by the state of the ladies toilets in the workplace.....do these people live like that or because it isn't their home do they feel able to leave them in a terrible state frequently not even bothering with the flush?

I live near cannock chase forrest which is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the amount of morons who go over there for walks and leave litter never ceases to amaze me. Police should give on the spot fines to litter droppers more often, hit them in the wallet.

I often challenge them. . Walking over and saying 'shall I put this in the bin for you ' the money they claim gets paid to people picking it up . . Could be paid to the same people to maintain playgrounds and park flowerbeds or toilets .

You don't see litter in some European cities. I went to Sweden once and never saw any litter in the streets at all.

"On the plus side it does keep alot of people in a job "
please read the above. . The people picking up litter are generally council contractors. . They would spend more time on other things to improve and maintain the places we live in. That's like saying rob a bank to keep the police busy !

This is something which gets me down on a daily basis, I really hate it. Spent a week in Isle of Wight last year and the place was pretty much litter free, so refreshing to see. Have just started a new job in Reading, what a shit hole, litter everywhere, tons of it.

I also work in waste management, so gets to me just that little bit more

Where I live, im on the route to a comp school and the kids just throw the litter in the nearest garden, even the parents some times

Has anyone noticed in the larger shopping centres there is a distinct lack of bins. I once asked a cleaner why, and was told its so there are less places to hide bombs

You're not wrong about Reading, saw a young lad walk out of McD's, unwrap a cheeseburger, literally walked right past a bin (didn't need to even deviate route) but instead of putting wrapper in bin dropped it on the floor and walked off.

Absolutely NO respect whatsoever for anything except themselves.

I picked it up myself and put it in the bin but it's literally gobsmacking how some people just have no concept whatsoever of how unacceptable littering is.

And don't even start me on the amount of litter that people leave behind after a day on our beaches! Makes me seethe.

No some people are just scruffy cunts and don't see anything wrong with throwing out rubbish. The fines need to be higher.

As someone has mentioned, it's a real lack of respect and that's sad. These people don't care about their world and they'll pay for that one day.

Even worse than that are the ones who pick up the dog shit in a plastic bag, then throw it into the bushes!!

at least when it's left on the path it eventually weathers away!

alpha I am with you there buddy - that is one of my absolute all time pet hates. Part of me wants to find the people who drop litter and post the contents of a litter bin through their letter box.

I never dropped litter, well I only dropped 1 type of litter.... Fag ends. I am no longer a smoker and I know the error of my ways. But still plenty of people drop their cigarette ends and do the "stub out with their foot thing"

Every so often, the local council sends people to the bus station entrance and collar people.

It's the most stupid mindless crime! Absolutely no need for it. It's disgraceful people are so lazy they won't keep hold of it until they find a bin. If I see people dropping litter I will pick it up and hand it back to them and saying "excuse me you've dropped this" they usually get the message after that

It's one of the applications of vigilantes that I'd agree with.

On a forthcoming tv news 'Coming up. A masked group of vigilante swingers ensures our streets are cleaner'

I also challenge people but the problem is widespread, it's revolting. Respect for others is at the top of my values and littering is so wrong on so many levels.

I'm guilty of occasionally throwing a cigarette end out of the car window absent-mindedly (even though I have a butt bucket in the door) but if i'm out and about I stub them out and put them in the bin. Would never dream of throwing any other rubbish out the window or on the ground, so I get annoyed with myself when I do chuck cigs out.

In the Hong Kong protests the people have been so polite they've been collecting up their rubbish and even separating the recyclables.

On the way to school last week we were walking behind a mother and her two sons, one boy was eating a packet of crisps and the other a Kinder egg (yes at 8.30am). They left a trail of litter behind them and the mum saw them dropping stuff and didn't question it so obviously didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I was absolutely disgusted as were my children. We picked it up and made a point of putting it in a bin where they would see and

loudly stating how awful it was that people just tossed their rubbish on the floor. A bit passive aggressive I know but I hate confrontation!!

I've been on a paediatric ward with my daughter for a week now, as parents we have bathroom facilities and a small kitchen to use to make hot drinks, toast etc. The amount of times in the last week that I have gone into the bathroom to find used loo roll on the floor, unflushed toilets, stains on loo seats, empty toilet rolls etc it's ridiculous. I can't believe so called adults live like that! And the kitchen, there are signs saying please wash up after yourself etc but oftentimes there are plates and cups in the sink and toast crumbs and sugar all over the worktop. Us who are here for longer than a day end up doing all the washing up.

Litter in laybays usually down to chav boy racers, i've been driving behind one before, souped up crappy ford fiesta with silly looking skirts on and they were throwing litter out the window (McDonalds, etc) for about 2 miles.

I once had a rat running around my garden in broad daylight.

I had to get a pest controller in to get rid of it.

He said it was unusual to see them out in daylight but that disguarded half eaten fast food was probably to blame.

Perhaps when rats are roaming the streets and our gardens the morons might wake up,
