I used to suffer really badly. The only thing that would stop them (and send me away with the faeries) was feminax. I have no idea what used to be in them but they aren't the same anymore. Then I had kids and no pain now!....bit of a drastic solution! Have you tried the contraceptive pill?

It is a long time since I had monthlies. I used to get a tablet called Ponstan from the GP. I hear girls use Buscopan 20mg at a time that you can buy over the counter.

There are 2 types of feminax, you need the over the counter one which is naproxen. It's the only thing that will dull the pain for me. Also got water bottles. Do go to the gp though as mine is due to pcos. It can be due to endometritis too so really worth getting checked out x

Also recommending Ponstan. Otherwise known as Mefenamic Acid.

I just took Nurofen. I tried others but it depends what's causing your pain. You need to discuss with a doctor in case you have an underlying medical problem that needs treatment

Its Naproxen in Feminax. A fantastic painkiller that I was going to suggest. It's the only thing that helps any of my aches and pains.

Do men get a time of the month?

You may raise your eyebrows, but there must be traces of something, after all, why do men have nipples?

Mostly in GU24

Painful periods aren't normal and might represent another problem. Ladies, see a doctor, get a scan, make sure everything is ok. Then you've got options.

There's Mirena which is excellent for heavy periods: stops them. There's thermal ablation of the lining of the womb if you don't want any more children. If you've got endometriosis that's a whole new ball game.

Get yourselves checked x

I've been checked, double checked and triple checked everything is normal I just suffer with painful periods but I'm certainly not wishing for my menopause to get here any time soon

Marina coil is fab.... Why not give it a try yourself ?

I noticed even within first month that my period was a LOT lighter and shorter. Hopefully it will stop the periods very soon, woo-hoo!

I second this one!! I had my marina coil put in around 3 weeks ago. I've had no bleeding what so ever. At the most I've worn a panty liner, but not really any need. And I've had no pains, other than the day it was fitted x

Just to say that in the late 90s/early 00s feminax contained... codeine! As soon as I read "away with the fairies" I knew you were talking about that one I also used to take these, a single tablet on onset, and it would zonk me out of this world; co-codamol is not like other painkillers, it's more like dope - probably why they stopped making them like that!
