As if they haven't heard what you have said, only to then answer the question you asked when you don't repeat yourself!

Does anybody do this, or does anybody know why people do this?

I think they're processing it in their head at the same time they say it . I know I am guilty of asking someone to repeat something but then answer before they have .

It creates thinking time. Hubby does it all the times so when he says what I just reply with "you heard"

That's just given explanation I headn't even thought of. It does make you wonder, if you said 'show me your tits' or 'show me your cock', to someone who regularly says it, would they hear you the first time. I am not that daring to test it lol

Drives me even pottier if they say "what?" or "sorry?" to a written question you have just answered from them....all because they are too lazy to remember or look back on what they have already asked.....lol

Many people suffer from "delayed" hearing, I have had it ever since the tinnitus started (chemo drug caused it) I can hear but it takes time for my brain to decipher the words from the background noise. I tend not to say what but instead pause before answering which is probably even more annoying

A very valid reason though.

If people are surprised then they may need to confirm that you did truly say what they thought they heard. Some come out with such utter bollocks that it's no surprise when others are astounded by stupidity or ignorance levels that are below scientifically explicable possibilities.

Pause for thought springs to mind, before they fight or flee.
