Gordon Banks and his wife were at the pub where a couple of mates were playing guitar and drums, there was one major ingrate pestering them all night, and a few others, so during the few seconds I got to speak to him I told him my name, said it was nice to meet him, and that I knew he was bombarded by people so I'd leave him to enjoy his evening..I shook the hand that made the best save ever, just felt embarrassed for him and my home town that he had to put up with these dick heads..bet he gets that everywhere though, there's always a handful that sees famous people as public domain

Not on the same level as Gordon banks.

But I seen the exact same thing happen when I was at a charity ball and they had jenson button there. He was getting pestered from all angles. I managed to say hi to him as we passed on the way to the loo.

Didn't you do the same by approaching him? We saw a very famous person last night at the theatre and didn't approach them at all. They were out for a family night out not as a performer.

there were 15 people there, we weren't at a theatre, I've seen plenty of famous people but not of that magnitude at the local pub on a sunday night...there's always one or two who has the shit on the bonfire ain't there? self projecting envy is a common human trait i suppose..

I've never approached anyone famous. End of the day just because there famous it doesn't make them anymore special then one of us. We are all equal.

Would piss me right off if someone was pestering me. :-/

Having worked in theatres through much of my collage life I have met served and talked to many a famous person and royalty. Never once have I personally encroached on them as the way I see it they are no different to the rest of us.

I treated them no different to any other person I delt with.

I don't see anything wrong with just going up and and saying hi I'm so and so it's a real pleasure to meet you, and then walking away..unless they engage in conversation with you, I can honestly say in my 40 years on this earth I have never met a famous person

Harrison Ford was having dinner at the next table to us on Friday night. Never crossed my mind to go over even though I'm a MASSIVE Star Wars fan (my meet potent just plummeted admitting that).

Never really got the famous people thing....I just tend to leave them alone

My career is based on the hospitality industry so over the years you seen a lot of famous people. I never really understood the celebrity hysteria that seemed to consume my fellow colleagues. They were just an other customer to me.

Its all dependent upon the situation/ context. My friend met stuart pearce in nottingham the orher week, said hello and in the conversation stuart said chatting with fans was part of what comes with the territory ir no problem.

I met dec (ie Ant n dec without ant) at a gig - chatted with him about music and went in my merry way. He called me back as i was leaving and asked if i wanted a photo!! Lovely chap

I wouldn't bother someone having a family / quiet meal or something similar.

It's not envy. If I wanted to name drop everyone that I have met then I would list them on the name drop thread.

My point is simply that you stated others were bothering him and then that you went up and gave him your name, shook his hand and TOLD him you would leave him alone to enjoy his evening.

How is it really any different to the twats you are bemoaning?

I meet people through my work who are usually famous in some other sphere. Treat them same as anyone else and they are happy to chat again when you seen them. But there are always exceptions of course and can think of quite a few big headed sportsmen.

I believe pissing on a bonfire is far more effective than shitting on one

Unless its a mega cow pat splat that covers it entirely
