I referred to a man as my new potential lover and he just about flipped saying that there was no ways of him ever being my lover. My first reaction in my mind was....phew CHILL mate!!! After all I'm always teasing and laughing and we had been messaging/talking for a week and having great fun... So I would like to open up to you what is the correct way to perhaps voice this.... Would you say "Good morning my new potential lover!" OR "Good morning my new potential fucker!"....OR what. And by the way, I do love being natural in expressing myself without having to think about every goddam word and whether it's going to offend someone.

I'd probably not refer to a sexual contact as a lover however long we've known each other.

But it's ideal to express yourself and not us, when you're speaking. We can tell you likely norms nut you're unique and have your own style of communication. This guy may have been shocked that you held the relationship differently to him - love vs. shag buddy. If he has anger issues he'd get shown the door. If he's not willing to let you be yourself I'd likewise tell him to go.

Some are sensitive about relationship styles and not wanting involvement. I'd still need someone I can relate with verbally, regardless. Early days can be a little open to confusion so set him straight or ditch if he's a cock.

I use lover when I'm referring to anyone I have fun with. And if it's a regular thing which involves sleepovers I call them cuddle buddies. I'm not a fan of explicit words and I haven't had complaints. I'd say you dodged a bullet there
