Does anyone else wonder why we get asked to write profiles when the majority of people who message us don't even read them?

Yep.

So it makes it easy to know who has and who hasn't.

Makes the choice of who gets an instant delete/block simple.

We don't mind those who don't bother reading ours - we see it as another filter!

My profile is a bit long but it is more ironic than true. Oddly enough I get fewer messages since I changed it. I guess people read the first couple of lines or just scan and move on. Profiles that just say 'man wants sex' are boring. Make me laugh...it is a goid ice breaker.

I read most profiles I'm interested in. I skim read the really long ones,if I don't see anything that hooks me I move on swiftly

I read them all, and try to abide by the dos, don'ts and the wishes contained within, but some are really demanding, really bitchy and come across as really self important!!, but that just gives me the opportunity to body swerve them lol

You don't have to write a profile but it is useful. If you think about it, as Much woman would you be contacted as much without one?

I like writing so I enjoyed writing mine. I also enjoy reading good profiles but the poorly written ones way outnumber the well written ones bu a huge margin.

I always read all the profile, it gives a good insight into the person you will hopefully be meeting.

I carefully word my messages to show how compatible we are and am careful not to give just one line messages.

But STILL don't get any replies!

I read profiles. There is no point me messaging someone if I don't have what they're looking for. I'm not really a chancer, it'd just be wasting mine and their time anyway. Must say that the lists on some profiles do make some come across as a little draconian but I appreciate that they've probably been messed around a fair bit in the past and are trying to filter those type of people out. For me though the initial attraction has to be physical then a little converse always brings to light whether you're compatible or not.

Sometimes I think there is too much pressure on sites like this to have an amazing profile that must have this and that in it bla bla bla.

My view is if someone likes the look of me and would like to find out more about me then lets talk a little.

I agree with this. I'm not bothered whether mine gets read or not. it's obvious who has and thats who I'll chat to.

A high proportion of the men on Fab have little more than one liners, without saying anything about themselves and what they want from Fab they say so much and its a useful filter - their messages generally follow the same vein. Those men that make an effort with their profile generally make more of an effort with messages too and they seem to be the most successful - go figure!

Women and couples tend to put more effort and info into their profiles but it works the same way, if you take the time to read them you can filter out those who don't meet your preferences or you theirs.

So yes profiles are worthwhile, how one chooses to use them is a matter of preference like everything else on Fab.

Single women and couples do get snowed under with messages from mainly unsuitable men.

Single men also get them ( I do ) delete and block is a great tool on here.

If a women messaged me and admitted to not reading my profile, I infact made her laugh (thats why she messaged me). It wouldnt bother me.

Next thing we go for a drink and get on great, there's a connection - The whole profile thing still wouldnt bother me.

I always read them. How else would I realise that they might be a stuck up bitch that I don't want to meet?? Usually a profile will tell me that.

I find it frustrating and at times arrogant, when the headline of the profile request you to read the profile, and after scrolling down all I find is. I am looking for a mail and or couples for NSA fun what's all that about?

I do read profiles and look to pick up something that the person is interested in, why bother

I read all profiles I would intend to message , however I don't always adhere to their message requirement for example if they request a face pic first message , I would give them the opportunity to illustrate they are not constrained by arbitrary short sighted nonsense demands x

I'm much more likely to reply to someone with a well written profile no matter how good the message they send me is-I think it shows they're serious about what they're looking for and not just chancing their luck messaging every girl on the site.

On the other hand some don't half go on a bit!

i've reached the point where the first line of my profile says 'please read my profile in full' and the last line is 'to prove you've read my profile, if it's the first time you've messaged me, put Dildo in the topic line'

i delete any new message without dildo in the tag from anyone who's never messaged me before.

(the only exception is if the message is a private reply to a forum topic)
