Oyster card user

I was on the train yesterday when the guard came through the carriage checking tickets.

The conversation with another passenger was along the lines of "you haven't tapped in with your Oyster card sir"

"Yes I have, if your system doesn't work it's not my problem"

"If you don't tap in sir, it's your problem. You have to buy a ticket now, where did you get on,"

The whole carriage was in stitches listening to the indignant passenger and the guard who had seemingly worked for the truth commission previously.

The passenger tried every conceivable way of not paying for the ticket he clearly did not have.

In the end, the guard not only kicked the guy off the train at the next stop but ensured that the ticket office made him pay for a ticket. The whole carriage was in rapturous laughter as the guy left the train.

Listening to the conversation was like being at a live performance of a sitcom.

It will track where and when you got on the tube and where and when you got off but a mobile phone will give 10 times more detail of what you've been upto

. That is what caused me to lose £ 6.50 on a few occasions .Tapped in and forgot to tap out at the train station. Can be an expensive mistake to make .

Depends on your route but there are plenty of stations, particularly on the overground with no barriers.

Once I assumed that my card was accepted upon entering the tube station when I tapped it onto an already barrier which was left opened, but when I got to the other end, the barrier wouldn't let me out! It wasn't and when asked for assistance, the guard asked me where I had come from. I also had to topped up the card too, so that I could leave!

GCHQ have now published what they have to technology to do, including turning your phone microphones on and off, to listen to your conversations, as well as the cameras, to see who you're with and what you're up to.

Oyster cards, shop loyalty cards, mobile phones etc all can and are used for tracking people's movements, their purchases and interests etc.

You can always throw your oyster and loyalty cards into a dish, like the fabled old swinging parties, and swap with others, to add confusion.

I am not particularly bothered if my movement is tracked . Unless you are engaging in criminal activity does it matter. ? With so much data available , the government would hardly have the time or resources to track / investigate movement unless you were of particular interest to them.
