So banksy paints a mural on a wall in clacton on sea..... A resident complains not realising what it was... And Tendring district council paint over it!

It was being valued at £400,000 pounds...

Obviously the initial outrage has been overtaken by the monetary loss... As they are now begging banksy to come back and do another one!

So how you ever done anything silly that has cost you money.... Or have you not put on a bet that would have ended up bringing in a shed load of money?

Was that the one removed because it was deemed racist??

In answer.....I sent a mate to the bookies to stick a few horses on an accumulator for me, £20 on would have won me around £800. He forgot and I thought I'd won it until I text him asking for me slip.......which he obviously didn't have

My mum bless her, told me a few years ago that she had picked a horse out in the Cheltenham gold cup

Its name was Nortons Coin.

I told her, " Mum its up against Desert Orchid, its got no chance"

She said it would win because she had a feeling!!!

and if I wouldn't back it for her, she was going to get one of my brothers to put a bet on for her. he backed it himself as well.

It romped home at 100/1

Failed to convince my bosses that we should buy a small business distributing screws for £15m, they only wanted to pay £12.5m and the family told me to bugger off. That business, you might have heard of it, Screwfix, valued at about £1bn today!

When I was in my mid 20s I had enough money for a deposit for a flat and was looking to buy a flat in Moseley for around £30-40k. Met a girl, moved into her flat spent the money on a holiday. Anyone in brum will tell you how much flats in moseley go for these days as a couple of years later it very much became gentrified

2nd that his work is amazing! I went to his exibition in Bristol a few years back, it was excellent!

A friend got a tip directly from the Horses Trainer recently and I said to him "nothing's certain in betting" I put only £10 down and he put £300, horse only went and won so I got £70 & he won £2,100 wish I had put more down lol

If Banksy painted the mural on a "wall" or the side of a building, how is it valued, and who owns it?

If it's on a billboard I can see the value, as it can be moved.

I saw this on the news yesterday and they reported that some people had complained that the mural was racist. The mural is said to be of pigeons carrying placards?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Forgot to answer Fabio's question

It's been a while ago now, actually 32yrs, and I was offered a partnership in a business as a sleeping partner.

My brothers business was up and running but he was struggling for cash. He asked me for £1000. I didn't have the cash then. We'd been married only a couple of years or so and money was tight.

Anyway, today the business is doing very well.

I happy for my brother, but often think that I should have got the money from somewhere.

Hello Fabio,

"It was being valued at £400,000 pounds..."

I've been convinced for a long time that the art world is totally mad. This re confirms it.

Alec

It's graffiti not art. He should just do another on a different wall where he asked permission to paint.

It's all like the emperor's new clothes... or Tracy Emin's bed.

I think it was too close to home for some people which is why it touched a nerve...

It was a group of pigeons hold placards at a migrating swallow....

One read "migrants not welcome"

Another read "go back to Africa"

The last read "keep off our worms"

Very smartly done....

I think it was a comment about the electioneering for the by-election.

I thought it was covered over before it got valued?

If the police can't drive cans round saying go home why should a vandal (under the guise of an 'artist') be allowed to paint it in a wall?

And as for begging him to come back, the story I read simply said if he wanted to come back and paint another wall be could. Doesn't sound like begging to me.

It's about Carswell defecting to UKIP.

As to Banksy's politics, we only have his art to base any speculation about that.

I'm surprised at this thread.

Is the OP implying that implied racism is more than acceptable provided that it's valuable?

Not dissimilar to the NFL's quandry, do we act against unacceptable behaviour or do we keep our valuable sponsors?

If i were Banksy, i'm not, i'd tell Clacton on Sea to go fuck themselves.

I don't think it was racist at all... But just gave a different look at a view of what a lot of people think in Britain today.... People are big enough to say it behind closed doors, but won't say it in public and it was those views that were being mocked

Just out of curiosity if this vandal known as banksy painted on a wall you owned would you insist the wall be painted over as he didn't have your permission

To answer the question.

I was going to put £7500 into the stock market when I was 19, was advised against it and talked out of it

Bought a car instead

Would of made approximately £107,500 in a year

maybe....depends if i liked it or not, same with other graffiti. I don't see what makes them so valuable though.

for what its worth the birds in the picture were very well painted but the slogans were controversial. Perhaps they could have just painted over those?

The amount someone is willing to pay is what makes it valuable, I love art but couldn't justify the price of some pieces

Ok so his other art tells us he is anti racism?

I can't see how 4 racist birds can be infered to be a anti racist statement , however very open to a valid explanation xx

I felt I couldn't take the risk and left him to it. I'm still in the same job. He sold his business a few years ago for a couple of million and is now retired and living in the lap of luxury
