first day nerves

Well, after nearly three years on my own with three children I finally bag myself a job. So happy to be able to come off income support at last, and just to be getting back into the workforce. As my first day gets ever closer I am finding myself suddenly doubting my ability to do the job, and generally having a bit of a wobble in terms of my confidence levels. I expect lots of people feel like this after a spell of time not in employment but any advice appreciated

Nerves are normal but your best bet is be yourself and take a pen and notepad, write everything down while your learning as you will be so nervous it probably won't sink in at first x

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Remember, they picked you... likely out of a lot of candidates. Smile even when you feel nervous!

I've returned to work this year after 14 years out of work, and its been amazing!

Nerves are normal! You will be fine once in there, big smile, tell yourself you are awesome and go enjoy being independent once more

Thanks for the advice, especially about taking a pen and paper. Its a job thats completely new to me, so its going to be a steep learning curve. Cant wait to get my first day out of the way and then just enjoy my job!

Your application and inter_iew must have been good. Many people would have went for the same job and they chose you. Dont be scarred to ask questions. Try and relax and enjoy it. Congratulations x

You are there because they wanted you there. Not the 50 or 100 other people who applied.

Be proud. Be excited. xx

Bloody well done, it does take a lot of courage to get back into the job market.Don't worry about nerves you'll be perfect and after a day or two wonder what you were worrying about.

Get ready for tiredness to hit. On my return to work after time at home I was amazed how tired I was.

So, get some home cooked meal ready in thr freezer for you. Get a slow cooker and cook a casserole over the day for tea that evening.

Don't give yourself a hsrd time when tired every evening.

Be proud of yourself. Well done

A long time ago I was off sick for four months and I felt really nervous going back into the office. Hopefully you'll have a proper induction and get introduced to everyone. They picked you, so they must have been impressed with you. Plus some nerves are good as they'll give you adrenalin to get through the first few days of taking in lots of new knowledge. Enjoy , it'll be fun!

Hey what great news. Congratulations.

After being unemployed it normal to have nerves. However, you know you can do the job, YOU now have to believe in yourself more. I have sent you a cyber hug and a kick up the arse for next time doubting your abilities!

Just remember that during these years when I'm sure you've had some difficult times you have been learning lots of new life skills which will have made you an even greater asset to your new employers. You're not catching up...you're just changing course and I wish you all the luck in the world.
