Do you think crowd funding is a good idea?

For those who don't know what that is, someone says "I'm going to do something", then writes up their idea on a crowd funding site. People then donate money and hopefully raise the funds needed to do this.

I am writing this as someone wanted $500,000 to start a game called Star Citizen. It is now in the Guiness book of World Records as it's raised over $55,000,000.

So if you have an idea, you don't need The Dragons.

There is an upfront fee of about £1000 which is non refundable so you need to be reasonably confident you can raise all the cash you are seeking. If you fall short people don't fund, ie if you needed £500k and got to £400k you get nothing!
