prom night

i know this is a very american thing,newish and there are probably lots of reasons why we shouldnt have them ....but

my son has his tonight. He has autism and its pretty much the first social thing he has ever been really keen to go to, especially on his own and in an unfamiliar place. He didnt want to wear a bow tie, so hes got a new suit, his first one, new shoes, a shirt and tie he chose himself and a haircut.

His older brother is helping him get ready now, evening up his sideburns ( younger son is still mastering shaving! ), sorting his tie, slipping him some money for drinks ( he didnt think i saw and he didnt do it to make himself look good to me ) .

im so proud of my boys..my older son cares so much for his brother without disempowering him, and the beam on younger ones face is huge ! He's come so far from the lad who would not speak to anyone for years.

Think I might have a lump in my throat

Kids, like holding the beauty of a butterfly oh so briefly but letting go, you know it makes sense but you want to hold on a little longer.

Wishing him a wonderful evening and you are able to relax and not worry how he is doing. Sometimes kids just make you so proud for a brief moment more than normal day to day proudness.

Kids are fab arent they x

just back from dropping him off and waiting while they had pictures taken and got into limos or fire engine ! He looked a bit awkward waiting initally til he palled up with someone he knew ...then I left him to it

got to stay awake now til 11 to pick him up ! xx

I will be waiting up to hear how his night went now...lol...brings me back...18 years to my own grad...we didn't call it a prom where I am from in Canada but we had all the works,limo,fancy dresses etc...I think a big pat on the back to you as from the sound of it you have a couple of great boys there.hope he had a wonderful time!!!xxx

thanks yummy .... the girls looked amazing ! everything from little cocktail dresses to long gowns to velvet gothic dresses and hats. xx

What a lovely thread

Im so glad he had a great time and will look back with good memories of a fab night

My son had his a couple of weeks ago and was adamant he did'nt want to go,he eventually went in his tux looking very grown up and gorgeous and came back saying it was a great xxxx
