"vehicles with paper tax discs can be removed from the 1st of october, it is advisable that they are removed prior to an mot as they will be categorised the same as windscreen stickers and similar to the air freshners that hang from interior veiw mirrors which could result in a Fail. (all depends how leniant the mot tester is on the day) " how can they be classed as a fail if they arent a fail now? i thought windscreen stickers and cracks/chips only failed if they were in a specific area of the screen?

"Its a money making excercise for DVLA ..... for every car bought or sold - they gain one months road tax. IE: buy a car on say the 15th of the month, the seller has to "remove" the tax, the buyer then has to tax the car again from the beggining of the month, which has already been paid for and the seller does not get any part months refund, so the reamaining months is paid for twice." so just sell the car at the end of the month

Buying or selling a car with some tax on it was a selling (or buying) point.... all VEL now varies depending on emmisions of the vehicle - so if you see a car you like for instance , say £3 grand ...... you instantly have to find out the cost of the road tax.

" nothing must obscure the area swept by the wipers its an MOT fail and can incur a fine from the police so watch where you put that satnav" Not strictly correct. within roughly 25cm (it may be incorrect) each side of the centre line of the steering wheel and within the swept area of the wipers, a blemish/crack/obstruction of more than 10mm is a fail if it obscures the driver VIEW OF THE ROAD. The rest of the swept area of the wipers the blemish/crack/obstruction must be 40mm or more to fail, again if it obscures the drivers view of the road. In theory where the tax disc is on the screen it's not in a place where it affects the drivers view of the road. like wise you could have a crack along the whole width of the windscreen within the swept area but if all the driver could see through it was the bonnet it would be a pass and advise

"Nice one department of transport, anyone who makes a living making tax disc holders is now unemployed. " No I'm pretty sure the Chinese factory's will have retooled and just dedicated the production run time to something else. There's not a "tax disk factory" there is a multi purpose factory that gas a set of dies for its metal stamps or moulds for its injection or thermoform machines. There isn't enough market for continuous production so they'll make a big batch sell them, retool The machines make something else, retool make something else etc.
