Sunday night, 2 and a half hours of sleep and at work in the morning...

Monday night, 2 hours and at work in the morning...

Tonight will probably be the same as will the rest of the week...great!

Medication I'm on is amitriptyline but doesn't have any effect at all, apparently I'm a healthy insomniac and won't be prescribed sleeping tablets because of my age and the risk of addiction...I'm slowly losing the will to live, what can I do? Usually stay off my phone and avoid telly, lights on etc but I'm bored stiff of needing to sleep but not being able to sleep...anyone else suffer from insomnia? Usually have to resort to smoking a joint but it's a shit sleep and I just want to have a decent kip!

Ive suffered for many years.

I'm not allowed sleeping pills either. I went 5 nights with no sleep at all once and started hallucinating. Proper freaked me out and I had a stash of pain killers that made me a little buzzy and I ended up overdosing on those I was so desperate to sleep.

I've since discovered meditation. It doesn't always help me sleep but it takes me away from the fact I can't. It helps me feel calm and rested so even if I don't sleep I'm able to carry on.

Yep I feel your pain - I had a great nights sleep on Sunday but then in an act of revenge I only got a couple of hours Monday thanks to horrific nightmares. Other nights I'll be up until 4am - no consistency which makes it all the worse for me.

I've suffered insomnia for over 20 years. It's something my body has gotten used to now though.. As long as I get at least 4 solid hours kip, I'm good to go the next day!

Amitriptyline never worked for me either nor did nitrazepam which is a strong sleeping tablet.

I've found listening to audio books or radio 4 extra's readings help me. No lights, no glasses needed, only the sound of a voice reading to me in the dark, just like when I was a child being read a bedtime story.

Whether it's conditioning or those childhood memories, I've found having to concentrate on the spoken words helps me stop my brain wandering and thinking too much and so enables sleep.

I hope you and all other insomniacs can find restful and undisturbed sleep no matter how it comes to you. xxx

I'm the same as you and also been prescribed amitriptlyn but like you it does nothing for me.

The doctor refuses to give me anything else as I'm too young apparently x

Try going back to your GP's ask about an full evaluation for your condition being conducted if the lack of sleep is affecting your day to day life. You may also find that mixing with your meds could just be making things worst. I've always managed with not a great amount of sleep most of my life and as some people manage just fine on five hours. Hope you get sorted.

I find that yoga can help. I suffer sleep disturbances, my insomnia goes in bouts. I can sleep relatively normally for quite a while and then have a week or two of under two hours a night (like tonight).

All the classics like relaxation, lavender oil and a soothing routine can help a little. But sometimes I just have to get up and do stuff like do my supermarket shop or go for a walk.

Try yoga OP, it does seem to help when I'm having a prolonged bad patch.

I wouldn't say i have insomnia.. I work nights so my sleep pattern is disturbed anyway.. I do feel sometimes i have narcolepsy.. Can fall asleep mid conversation and have known to have fallen asleep stood up before too.. Im the power nap queen.. Fall to sleep within seconds but can wake after five mins and my body feels like its had a full nights sleep.. If im not asleep in 5 mins i get up.. Its not going to happen if im not asleep by then.. I get over tired at times and can't sleep... A vicious circle.. I think my body has got use to little and often sleep.. Even on my nights off, i do like an afternoon siesta.. If i do manage a full nights sleep i feel worse for it.. Almost like im d*unk in the morning.. A horrible feeling

You have to be stronger then him. He will get used to it.

Give him a soft toy about the same size as him and wrap a clock in a towel or jumper that smells of you - the ticking will feel like a heartbeat so he won't feel alone.

But any decent cage will stand up to the chewing and the whimpering will only last for as long as you respond.
