Cruel people

So today I went shopping at one of the big 4 supermarkets. The lady in the checkout queue in front of me and my housekeeper had everything scanned though while trying to keep her child from crying. Got to the end and her card got refused for some reason. She was very embrassed and said she would have to leave everything. All the people around were muttering. My housekeeper said she was very close to tears. In the end I offered to pay which was only just over £40 & she asked for a phone number so she could return the money. Her husband called almost straight away and dropped the cash around plus a box of chocolates. Hopefully the good people balance out the nasty. I feel good about myself and the lady got her shopping.

Good man! The title is misleading - others not paying £40 for a strangers shopping is not something I'd call cruel as such, but certainly the fact that you did was certainly an act of gallantry so well done to you

It was more what I overheard the other customers were saying, I had my card declined years back because visa was not working

Well done you top bloke.

When my grandmother was in her 20's she used to help an elderly gentleman cross the road by where she worked every day, as he always struggled and he would buy her a bar of chocolate as a thank you every week.

People always seem to have a giggle when they see someone's card being declined. I think it's human nature in what they perceive to be a difficult situation.

I usually laugh at it myself as my chip is dodgy so I get declined loads.

It happens.

LONDON (se)

Such a lovely selfless thing to do.

The world would be a nicer place with more like you in it. I've done similar but was onky about 10 to get a cab for a lost old lady at night.

What did she look like, I mean, when you gave her your phone number, were you secretly hoping for than a box of chocolates??? Be honest!!!

......maybe I shouldn't have dragged you down to my level

South East London

Faith restored.

Soo stressful being in a supermarket with a crying child at the best of times. Never mind people who are tutting and then finding out you've left your card at home.

Well done and hopefully karma visits you soon!

in some ways the fact that you couldn't see her which is how most of us would perhaps make a judgement on the person makes your action even more gracious..

respect..
