So I was late paying my phone bill, I don't have it as a direct debit as it's not always the same amount....EbloodyE have just sent me a letter to say due to the late payment they will be adding £5 onto my next bill..cheeky fuckers

My phone bill is rarely the same each month but I still have it on DD. They're supposed to text you with the amount charged before they take the money.

I have all my bills on DD now, else I would certainly be back in debt.

But you've still go to pay regardless...all of my bills are on DD, I have a great memory at work, but at home I am shit lol hence DD's never in trouble

why cant they charge admin? they were expecting to have the OP's money at an agreed date and that never happened. that required chasing the OP for the payment which costs them money.

If it is first offence you could ask or a gesture of good will for them to waive the charge.

if you pay by DD they have to by law. Any DD mandate you sign has a disclaimer above where you sign which sets out your rights under the DD Scheme (sadly i used to know this off by heart as i had to say it hundreds of times a week

)

not at all...where did that come from?! i didnt say you were wrong or lying or making it up!

i'm just saying what they should do by law. It obviously isnt an issue for you but others might not have been aware of the DD guarantee and what providers under the scheme are obliged to do.

I can do better op.

cancelled EE contract in April they sent me a pac code which I used to go to 3 (crap dont bother). EE are still chasing payments as they say the pac code I asked for in march was never used. I didnt ask for one in march, I asked in april and was told to use it by 17 may (which I did).

Direct debits are usually for variable amounts vs. standing orders which were for fixed values. As almost all utilities rip off those not doing dd it seems sensible to use it if the cash is reliably available.

I've ways paid Vodafone by DD but they never tell me the amount each month? No text, no bill, no email?

Perhaps they get around the DD laws as it is available for customers to view and check online.

Anyhow... That's bloody annoying for a one off late payment! Hope they back down

We use virgin media for landline, tv and mobiles. we always get a text message telling us how much our mobile bill is going to be so he knows what is coming out of dd. hope this helps everybody

Check your contract to make sure they have told you about this if not it is not something you have agreed to and as you have not agreed to it you cant be charged for it. A contract protects both of you not just a company.

I'm with vodaphone (shite signal around the house

) but I do get a text each month telling me how much they are going to take. Maybe it's an "opt in" thing that needs to be signed up for.

They want you to pay by Direct debit (you can have a variable one)so incentivise for doing it and punish those they have to chase up for payment.
