What does that mean when it says "professional" on a profile for example "we are a professional couple" does it mean that your job/profession is to swing?

Someone please help me with this one

To be honest, if you are professional, I wouldn't mind being a swinger as a profession

Angus & Findhorn

they are likely looking to attract similar, they are thinking they will be more compatible.

some feel that this word means they are looking their nose down on people, but I have to say I have never seen a professional speak down to others on here but many, many, many times in the reverse.

I think everyone knows full well what it means, if you seriously don't understand what it means, then do not contact the owners of the profile as you are unlikely to be compatible.

Have we have the professional qualification comment yet!

In simple terms they want to meet similar types, similar background etc, not because they want to look down on others, but because they are compatible in interests.

Of course there will be people who will use the term professional which wouldn't be an entirely accurate description. They are easily spotted though by misspelt words and the structure of the profile. You can get an essence of what people are by the way they speak, in written terms obviously.

I think it's a term people use to bolster their own profile and to attempt to filter out their perceived 'undesirables'. 'Professionals' (hate the term in profiles....personally I think it's exclusionary) certainly don't share the same background and interests simply because they work in one of any number of professions.

We personally used the word professionals to explain that due to our work we can't have face pictures on the profile and we need to be discrete. Not to rule in or out anyone.

I have, in the past, met (socially) with couples in the scene who declined me because it was felt that 'I would not integrate well into their existing socio-sexual circles' as I was not of sufficient economic or 'professional' standing.

Make of that what you will!

I suppose its different from 'You look like my partner's ex / brother / father / uncle / dead pet*'

I'd never seen so many spelling variants of professional until I arrived at fab. I hope the major dictionaries re_iew fab, so that they can correct their entries which are largely wrong. Sometimes it's a term used by married cheats as they're scared of being found our-even if their job is unskilled etc. I like the old definition of professional, even if it is a little narrow.
