Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I'm getting my bi-annual ear infection and, as getting an appointment at my doctors is harder than arranging a square dance with Kim Jon Un, I would appreciate suggestions for over the counter remedies. I have plenty of painkillers but could so with some ear-drops. TIA.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I just thought that, as there are so many different kinds of ear drops and pharmacists aren't exactly neutral as to brands offered, someone might be able to recommend a specific type. I shall be popping to Boots later so will ask when I get there.

That's true but so many different brands have the same active drugs.

I've had one only once before after diving & thankfully, went straight to the doc for antibiotics.

Bloody painful, that's for sure!!

According to online, I shouldn't use oil in case of a burst eardrum ( ) but heat does help, so warm flannels here we go.

Doesn't the heat grow the infection? I know it eases the pain and has been a remedy used for years, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the heat makes the infection grow,

Pop into your chemists and ask if there's anything you can use or do to ease it, hope it gets better soon

You can only get antibiotic ear drops from the docs - can get eye stuff OTC, we used to buy it for the horses, but not ear.

If it was me, I'd be taking the antibiotics route asap before it got any worse- but you know what works for you!

As a regular sufferer of ear infection the only thing that will solve it is antibiotics...have you not got a walk in clinic or a boots walk in clinic? Good luck I hope you get it sorted

Take allergy tabs if its itchy or swollen.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Use baby wipes for gently cleaning the outside of your ear.

If its bad today ring the out if hrs dr x

Ear infections are vile x

If you have had any history of perforations or the eardrum is likely to perforate, you should not be putting any drops into your ear unless you are under the direct instruction of a medical professional. If the pain is due to an infection, olive oil won't do anything.

Olive oil only softens wax to assist your ears natural cleaning system. It does not remove wax.

Use painkillers and anti - inflammatories to help give relief but you need to get antibiotics asap.

The GP should really be helping you look into why you keep getting infections - it maybe eustachian tube dysfunction which can be easily diagnosed once the infection has gone.

If the regular infection is due to a build up of wax, you need to discuss wax management with your GP to work out why you keep getting a build up and what you can do to prevent it.

You poor thing!

I got my one & only ear infection after diving in the Sth Pacific, - warmer waters = more bacteria, I guess - but anyway, I went to bed with a blocked ear & woke with an infection, so went straight to the doc & got it siringed & a course of antibiotics. They took a couple of days to work & it seemed like two weeks!!!

I can easily imagine how someone could seriously consider suicide with that pain, - it was absolute, nonstop agony.

I had an ear infection and also labyrnthitis (sic) 10 years ago which badly damaged my ear drum and I have since been diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. Basically, my ears no longer work to help my balance. I often have severe attacks of vertigo and it is bloody awful. Please go to the Drs because I wouldn't wish this condition on anyone xx

I had what I thought was an a burst ear drum trying to get water out of my ears after washing my hair, turned out to be pressure on the ear drum due to wax so doc told me to use earex felt better next day and cleared up in just a couple of days .....what a relief was so fkin painfully ...

As I said in the OP, getting a Drs appointment around here is not easy, so I'd have to wait til after the weekend anyway. I went to Boots and they don't sell anything for ear infections apart from painkillers, so painkillers it is!
