"Why not just send in the sas ? Job done " The idea is to succeed without any UK casualties. Troops, however, skilful are more at risk than fighter pilots. Of course, the safest place is in a submarine

"Sorry but its only a matter of time, they will not be fighting a standing army, those type of wars are over. This is the start of something big and our so called leaders have no clue. God help us all "

"Is it going to be worth the retaliation? I don't think they think of that before they start bombing people. Hope all service personnel a safe mission" Really? Do you think they thought they'd drop a few drops and get nothing back?

"Hope they dont arm some other treacherous 4kers who end up turning on us again. Yes, our troops do a great job, but our leaders are stupid. Still, good for arms sales, one of our growing manufacturing industries... I worry about the crazy ISIS 4kers when they return and start causing trouble. 5th column paranoia, but watch them cry 'Human Rights'. We should find them and kick their doors in at 4 in the morning, interrogate them, send them on a plane, maybe get the Saudis to do more of the fighting..." I always think of bill hicks when I read this. "I'm so sick of arming the world and then sending troops over to destroy the fucking arms, you know what I mean? We keep arming these little countries, then we go and blow the shit out of them. We're like the bullies of the world, you know. We're like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet: "Pick it up." "I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me." "Pick up the gun." "Mister, I don't want no trouble, huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, mister." "Pick up the gun." Boom, boom. "You all saw him. He had a gun."

"Blow every last one of them up. " Even the innocent civilians ? Agree with the guy who said the big countries arm them, because they do.. Don't agree with war of any kind. Mabye stop watching the BBC news and do your own research cos clearly some folk are brainwashed by it

"Can bombing save hostages? I don't know." No. Hostages will have their lives cut short by us bombing. Terribly tragic and a wrong move on our part. Expect hostages never to be found alive and positioned where they think we will bomb.

"Oh god, big mistake. Drive more people into the terrorists arms in one fell swoop....... So feel free to explain your thesis as to how to call a halt to the terrorism which affects now, and already has done to so many innocent people. " Because a quick look at any bloody history book would show that using heavy duty arms against terrorists will hurt civilian life more than the terrorist. This then acts as a recruitment sergeant for the very force being fought. Look at Ireland, Israel etc To fight terrorism effectivly a compromise must be found that is agreeable to all parties . ]

To stand back and watch the slaughter of thousands of innocents would be shameful. Just because they aren't British doesn't mean we should let it happen.

"Strongly believe we have to act globally to stop these people but why are we not putting more pressure on more countries in that region to also act..? Saudi's have an air force that is ten fold what we have and Turkey also has massive resources.. just get the feeling that this will spread, we may destroy them in time but the knock on effect will be on our streets and in our shopping centres I fear.. " The Saudi Air Force HAVE been involved. Also Bahrain and Kuwait. These are Sunni dominated countries bombing targets of a Sunni terrorist group...for once (I think the first time) the West have actually tried to do things in the right order. As to what effect it will actually have? Most military "experts" agree that ground forces will be needed....these too need to be Arab/local forces or again it will just be seen as crusader infidels...

"There is no "Just War" Humankind have been at loggerheads for whatever reason since time immemorial " Take your point Super, but anyway it includes the criterion of using proportionate force. You bomb me + I'll bomb you. Which is why you hear all the propaganda about threats to uk. To provide the moral framework to justify pre-emptive action. But The Hague is a very quiet place eh

Pretty much this. There's a great newspaper clip doing the rounds on Twitter and probably FB (don't do Fb), called 'Clear as Mud' which describes this situation perfectly. We should not be going to war again. It's not been thought through, no end game in place; instead just a an acknowledgement that it will take 'years' - at what cost financially and physically. There is an election coming up though and wars are good for elections. We have previous in the region and it's not good. If Tony Blair says it's a good idea there's a message there... Cameron was itching weeks ago as soon as the US went in but he couldn't go in as it would have tipped the referendum to a very definite Yes. I'm surprised he's waited a full week since that passed to be honest. We will be in Syria next and there will be people on the ground (to join the ones already there that they claim aren't there). Both Daisy and I have close family who are either active or retired from the military and like most here we hope everyone stays safe. They do know what they're signing up for and it is their job - however it doesn't make it right when 'our' Government arm all these people in the first palace and then we have to go in and stop them again when it goes wrong.
