Diet and exercise....

Right... as some of you might of gathered I'm on a mission to get back to my pre child slimmer self and get my fitness levels back up.

I'd like to drop a couple of stone and tone up as much as possible, get some definition of my arms etc.

My question is... What is the best stuff to eat before /after my workout? Is a calorie restricted diet the best way to go? Should I be eating more protein or anything like that??

Any advice will be greatly appreciated xx

Avoid high sugars and fats, obviously keep an eye on your calories, but don't crash diet or anything.

Have a varied diet, something like meta fit or circuit training is good. Exercise regularly and watch your portion sizes. Maybe try a healthy eating plan and find out what works for you. If you're progressing, even losing one pound each time, keep going and be careful not to revert to old diets or habits.

Good luck though that profile pic is nice, so don't get too skinny

Here is some basic advice, women to maintain need 2000kcal, so if you eat 1400 you WILL lose weight, whilst keeping the protein high and do weights to get defined, the best pre workout meal is tuna and oats and post workout, chicken and potatoes, keep the

portions very small and do about 30min of cardio and crunches to, 5 sets of 15 reps each set

This is what I do

I have a few boiled eggs for my breakfast a maybe a slice of brown bread.

I used to do a shit load of cardio, an didn't progress very much (lost a bit then it didn't budge)

I now after being with a pt learnt that it's all about weights. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn.

And finally things are going the way I want. I've gone from a size 14 to a size 10 and I've toned up quite quick xx

I lift quite big weights too.

I've just cut of the crap in my diet and try an eat healthier I still allow my self a little treat at the end of the week but don't binge.

I don't calorie count and I don't weigh myself. I go off what I see in the mirror and how my cloths look/feel .

As you exercise you have to keep the calorie intake up.

If your body has no energy to fuel your workouts, it uses up your muscles, and this is not a good thing because muscles help boost your metabolism and assist in faster weight loss.

You should eat meals that are spaced throughout the day, focusing on protein, foods low in fat, and complex carbohydrates for their energy sources.

You must eat the number of calories required to sustain you throughout the day. If you starve yourself, your body tends to go into the conservation mode where it hoards the remaining amounts of fat in your body as a safety deposit for times when it's not likely to get food.

You must eat a healthy breakfast if you're serious about losing weight. A good meal at the start of each day provides you with the energy needed for the whole day. It kick starts your metabolism and keeps you from snacking on unhealthy food as the day progresses. If you skip breakfast, your body is without food for at least 12 hours, and then you become so hungry that you tend to eat anything you can get your hands on before lunch time. Besides, if you do this regularly, your body will start hoarding fat deposits to burn during the long periods of time it gets no food.

I found that my fitness pal app worked really well. It can be a pain at first tracking all foods that you've eaten, bit it really opened my eyes to what calories are in what.

I don't tend to use ut much now, as I have an idea in my mind now when I'm selecting foods.

I also found for me that Excercise and shit loads of it works for me.

I watched a program about some people who just need to Excercise every day, or else they put weight on even if they stick to healthy diets. From that I gathered that all people areddifferent, so you have to learn fro. Your own body.

Good luck and feel free to ask for any help. X

Yep this may be tmi, but it softens your poo, and if you don't drink enough you get constipated. Meaning you hold on to extra weight.

Complex carbs are bread, including brown, rice, pasta, potatoes etc

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

A good post workout snack is an apple sliced and spread with nut butter (I like cashew). Don't bother with protein shakes unless you are lifting a LOT (they are high in calories). A good regime is 3 x 20 minute sessions of High Intensity Interval Training alternated with 2 or 3 x sessions of weight training. Most gyms will give you a free PT session to get that sorted. Or substitute one of the cardio sessions for pilates, which gives your core a really good work out. But the only way to change your body shape is to eat less, and keep your fat intake down (not completely out though - the body needs some fat. Just make sure its good fats like rape or olive oil, not pies and cakes).

Don't bother eating low fat or diet foods - they replace the taste with sugars and chemicals. Smaller portions of ordinary food will be more satisfying, and much cheaper.

I'll be joining you soon. Far too my Greek food in the last week, which is basically carbs with extra carbs. Not good but oh so tasty

Try and eat your dinner before 6pm and have very little carbs with it. Eat more more carbs at lunchtime.

Drink plenty of water as well.

Out of interest, why are you against nut butters? They are high in calories but the amount eaten is tiny, and they are very high in protein, which is an excellent after weights snack.

Same here: diagnosed diabetic last month lost 8kg walking about 4 miles a day, no carbs after 6, no fruit juice and strict portion control. Off on a walking holiday to Carcassonne on Sunday, should shift a few more kilos.

That's a good question and it's down to digestibility

Nut butters although convenient are far higher in fat and often unless home made have other additives in Inc sugar they are much more easily digested so the calorific impact per gram is almost double that of whole nuts . Just look at your poo after you have eaten them you will see whole nuts are not entirely digested

The cleaning effect of the whole food , and the full for longer and the better protein to fat ratio make them vastly superior x
