"Of course they do because Dave Grohl is still alive and kicking in them " Phil Jupitus is still alive and kicking but he's no Ian Dury replacement is he?

"so which bands do you rate? I can't say I'd ever describe Nirvana as bland even though I know they're not to everyone's taste.." I said foo fighters are bland. Nirvana were just over rated. There were many bands at that time such as Pixies, Jane's Addiction, mudhoney, Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr who either did the whole grunge thing far better or were far more innovative and exciting. Saw nirvana twice and was underwhelmed both times

" Its actually quite rare to find someone who truly, honestly loves everything a band produces " I agree, although Guided By Voices are a band who are very prolific and have a formula but it's a good one and I can't say there's a great deal of their's I don't like

"I didn't really like nirvana and thought Kurt Cobain was an insufferable bore. Apparently he hated nirvana fans, he thought they weren't cool enough for him. " never heard that before...whatever, each to their own, was just showing a couple of examples of good rock tracks by Nirvana..

I'm not saying it's fact but I heard it on a documentary. It's why he made In Utero, it was meant to be an album that put the fans off them.

"Nirvana were and still are massively over-rated. Foo-fighters even more so, some good songs but in the main totally bland and ironically the sort of dull and uninspiring rock that Grunge was supposedly the antithesis too"

There's various disdainful quotes direced at 'jocks' and mainstream metal fans. And while I can see a point and to an extent sympathise ultimately it smacks of elitism. And ultimately what did he expect when they signed to Geffen?

"Am I allowed to say 'Oasis are a big pile of shit'? No! It doesn't come close to describing the turdiness of their drivel " Possibly, but after the beat-down I got from expressing an opinion that the Beatles 'had a couple of good songs but were ultimately overrated', I'm treading carefully in music threads!

"I like what I like without being stereotyped. Saw the Foos this year and have to say Dave Grohl came across as a top bloke, as opposed to some of his needy teenage fans... Nirvana were awesome. Have to agree about Pink Floyd, but some of the more Prog stuff I still have nightmares about. Pixies, all time fave, as a lot of peeps don't know em. Muse, they can put on a show! And my final curveball is System Of A Down. Not a fan of Thrash Metal per se, but it just hits my switch bizarrely! I thank you!" But I bet Grohl likes his needy teenage fans. Not really a fan of the Foo's but he comes across as quite genuine. When you attend a concert you are all there for the same reason, because you enjoy the bands music. That includes the teenagers, young kids, the older generation and the people who think they're so cool because they liked the band when they were playing to a dozen people in the back room of pub. The band won't differentiate between you, they won't see any fan as being more important than the other.

But when you have been standing at a concert since two, watching a fantastic line up, all doing it for charity, then have a group of whiney teenagers turn up at ten for the headline act, see them stamp over everyone to get to the front and hear them bleat but we NEED to be at the front... Went to a Green Day gig and aoart from the mosh pit, everyone rocked but were polite about it... I coukd just be old and grumpy though
