I'm a pretty massive film fan, so it's great when I get to talk to people on here about film because I can go on about it for hours lol.

Thing is, when I get talking to people who say they love films also, a lot of them say they don't get to go hardly as they have no-one to go with.

Now, when I want to go see a film then i'm going to see it. Nothing is going to stop me from seeing it, even if I have to go by myself and tbh I don't have a huge problem with it. I've been going by myself since I was 11 and i've never felt 'odd' or like a loner or anything like that. To tell the truth sometimes I like going by myself, don't have to arrange anything with anyone else and when's best for them, I can suddenly decide i wanna go cinema and in the next 5 minutes be on the bus heading to the cinema.

This has sometimes made people think i'm odd. I remember at uni I was an incredibly social guy but i would want to go to the cinema to see a film and no-one I knew would, so i'd go alone. A few months later, while d*unk, one of my friends took me aside and said "We worry about you, y'know like when you go by yourself. It's a bit...sad" lol

Don't get me wrong, It's nice when people do come along and the after film chat is fine. But I don't find cinema-going to be incredibly social, I mean you sit in a dark room and stay silent (at least you should do

) for 2 hours, the before and after is social but there are much better things to do if you're looking to hang out and talk to someone.

So my question is, do you find it odd to go by yourself? and if so then why?

I urge everyone to give up this social stigma and go to the cinema lone-wolf style and just enjoy the film

My brother was self concious for a long while, didn't go cinema for 10 years, then when i convinced him to go by himself to see avengers cos he really wanted to, then he realised it wasn't bad at all. he's never looked back since and gone by himself loads of times.

But yeah you're right, it's not as if you're going to talk to someone so may as well go alone and then meet mates etc later. Not many of my friends are Marvel or DC fans either meh x

Haven't been to the flicks for yonks, think the last 3 times were for the Rings trilogy. Went with Kate for those.

I used to go on my own when I was younger.

The most memorable were the first 3 Rocky films. I saw them at The Plaza in Dudley and you'd have thought you were actually at the fights themselves. The audience were shouting and screaming for Rocky to win. In Rocky 3 when he fought the rematch with Clubber Lang (Mr T) it was almost a mass hysteria type event.

I've been once on my own and that was only cos my ex was 'babysitting' our daughter so I could go out with friends. We'd only just split so no way I was gonna say the night out was cancelled/postponed. Only thing I could think to do alone was cinema.

It felt really awkward n I've not done it since.

I really want to see 'Before I go to sleep' as I read n loved the book. My daughter would love to go but it's a 15 n she's not yet old enough. None of my friends are aware of the book n therefore lukewarm about the film.

So I prob won't see it til it's out on DVD, which just isn't the same

It was sort of the same for when I went to see Rocky Balboa when it came out. It wasn't too loud but you could feel the energy of everyone getting into the fight and you could hear people say under their breath "come on!". By the end, the whole cinema was applauding

Never really gone by myself, don't see the issue with it. People go alone to clubs, bars, swinging places, meals out, lunch breaks - normality is a loose term.

If you go alone on a date, that's when you should worry

Also, can't really say I get to the cinema that often these days - not many films appeal to me, still plenty of DVDs I've bought and not got round to watching yet.

Have my unlimited cinema card, and frequently go on my own, no problems at all.

My friends like rom com, chick flick stuff thats not for me, and I hate people talking to me through the film. Love the cinema, love films - often do epic days where I'll see 4 or 5 films back to back over the course of a day.

Does it bother me being alone, hell no! Its perfect!

I would happily go on my own but I prefer to wait for a film to come out on dvd or Sky. I can't concentrate at the cinema,my mind wanders. I used to be my son's cinema partner as he has the same film tastes as me

It's just one of those activities that when you tell someone you've been to the cinema they always ask what did you watch and who did you go with.

But if you tell someone you've been to the gym today they never ask who you've been with as it seems somehow acceptable to go alone.

It is a symptom of people fitting in with conventional wisdom.

Most people see going to the cinema as a social event, social being something you do with others, therefore when you go alone some will _iew you as anti-social and/or loners, and we have become conditioned to _iew that as odd/weird.

In a nutshell its about societal perceptions.

I hate doing anything alone! I'm a social butterfly and always want people near me.

All these people that enjoy the peace and quiet, I absolutely hate it.

Ive never been on my own, not because I find it odd but because for some reason nearly everytime I go see a film I fall asleep and have to be woken up at the end, that would be more embarrassing for me if i woke up to a member of staff shaking me or something haha

On a similar tack when 10 years ago I said I was off to backpack Oz and NZ almost everyone first asked was

"who are you going with?"

Technically was meeting a mate there but only as he was there anyway, I don't understand people who CANNOT function by themselves if it's outside the accepted norms - If you can't rely on yourself then how do you go on when the the shit hits the fan??

I mean I want to watch a film so ask and if no one is going I go anyway - never really thought about what others think of me.

Also very sociable and do have lots of real live friends too.

I sometimes think it isn't people just assuming you're going places with others, it's perhaps that they're just trying to show interest in what you're doing/where you're going.

i rarely go to the cinema now - never used to go alone as mostly involved taking the kids - some films are great on the big svreen - saw the harry potters and lord of the rings - but its only a short time now after its release that you can watch it online so that is enough for me xx

No harm in going alone, if one or two of you go, I wouldn't call it social, both looking at a screen like this

I think people see it as sad as it was and proberly still is classed as a dating thing.
