near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Perhaps not battery but quite possibly hydrogen or fuel cells might be on the horizon.

"all cars are battery powered lol????? "

Don't you mean when they all have hydrogen power cells?

And then it will just carry on doing what it does now, that is providing the ultimate R&D for the different manufacturers to test their inovations against the competition. Or did you think that the motor industry spend billions to entertain us?

I suppose a lot of this rests on when the patents which no doubt are all owned by the oil companies are released or run out. Fuel cells have been around since the 1940`s and probably more. I`ve seen pictures of an Allis Chalmers tractor which was fuel cell powered. I`m sure that was 1940`s.

Will need a giga watt sound system to replay engine noise to make it interesting.

Could have a H16 brm on track with a V12 ferrari..........might just be better.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

They're already talking about taking the engine size down to 1.5L and restricting fuel use.

Solar cells are becoming increasingly efficient, batteries are becoming lighter...and F1 is often at the cutting edge of technology.

So maybe it won't be that long before it starts to move in that direction.

theres a great interview with lord drayson on radiolemans, but he says at the moment they could get about half a stint at le mans with the current technology, thats about 20-30minutes of racing. I think the current cars refuel ever 45ish minutes for lmp cars, gt cars might go for 1 hour between stops.

sound wise he thinks you would hear the aerodynamics :o

As soon as electric cars outnumber their petrol driven counterparts I wouldn't be at all surprised to see petrol engines outlawed as unfriendly to the environment.

When this happens F1 will have to switch to electric cars and then to make the go faster an electric bearing rail will need to be fitted to the middle of the track and a recharging device to the underside of the car. I hear Scalextric are keen to establish negotiations for using their patent.

It's obvious. Lewis Hamilton will choke. And the BBC will carry on chatting to Martin Whitmarsh
